            Need some advice.

DD is in a reputed mainstream SAP school consistently scoring above 85% with Dist in HMT. She is also in the school Bicep programme.

I have checked NYGH website but they did not indicate minimum requirement to apply for mainstream students. Anyone know their min requirement?

Also, experienced parents pls advise if she shd try DSA NYGH. Will she be able to make it? I dont want her to waste time if chances are very slim.

            Tks.

Of course she can try if that's her dream school! :please:
Don't rem that they specify any minimum academic requirement. Has she being selected for Bilingual Olympiad in NYGH? If she is selected and can be top 30 in that competition plus if she's SMOPS >gold medallist, chances would be very very good.

If not, she has to go through normal DSA process with GAT being the first cut. She has to clear the GAT before she goes to interview. Her BICEP advantage only kicks in if she gets that interview. However many who clear GAT would have excellent results and some are from BICEP too. So it depends on how she performs in interview. Give it a go if NYGH is her choice school. Bulk of vacancies are taken up by GEPpers in NYGH DSA followed by CCA DSA girls. So if go via academic without SMOPS or Bilingual Olympiad achievements, your girl is up against all other top mainstream girls of many schools. From history, you would gather that the successful mainstreamers from SAP schools for NYGH DSA are only a very small handful, very very few. So go with open mind! All the best!

Can I check, not all school need to sit for GAT test during DSA application ?Like example, I apply for SST under DSA and is it a must to sit for GAT ? Because I think I had read about this somewhere that it depend on your P6 results ? Very confusing, can anyone advice me again ?

                Hi shurley197323,

Based on my son's experience last year, he had to sit for HAST and not GAT. On the day when you report for the test, exam results, records of achievements etc had to be submitted. Should he clear the HAST, he will be invited to attend a Selection Activity whereby the candidates will be placed in groups and perform some tasks. There was also a mini interview within the group. Hope this helps.

But if the kid intend to continue the same CCA, then why not?

If the child is certain that his interest would be sustained for all four years and is happy to train intensively and represent the school, certainly go for Sports DSA. But if the kid is just good at the sport or is forced into it by the parents and has no passion for it, and think he might be interested in another sport in secondary school then the DSA sport can get tedious in the long run.

My ds2 just mentioned the other day that he didn't want to do DSA for JC next time. He said he wanted to try other CCA in JC. To which I commented - JC is such a short time (1+yrs) - which CCA would want you with your background other than what you've been doing??!!! HAHA!

You do realise that even if your child might want to go for a new CCA in Secondary school, they may not be selected by that CCA simply bc another CCA (usually the one they are experienced in) - wants them instead? That is the sad reality in our school CCA system these days. ;(* So even if your child does not want to do DSA in the CCA just bc he/she doesn't want to be tied down to that CCA, do note that he/she, having accomplished much in that CCA, might in the end, not be able to join another CCA.

Right now, my dd still intends to continue with the sport, but I prefer that she keeps her options open. I don't want her to eat, live and breathe that sport which she'd have to do to remain competitive in the years to come. Not only that, her physique will also be affected if she has to train even harder. Bulky like Joscelin Yeo!

I prefer that she has time for other activities eg. music or art to be well-rounded. It's my secret wish that she will join the String Ensemble.

Not sure if she can join other CCA and then still take part in the sport competition if the school needs her.

What happens to those GEPpers who DSA into schools like RI or HCI but do not score well in PSLE? Will they still be assigned to "GEP" or "good" classes or will they be grouped with others with similar score? Is PSLE score important for those who have secured DSA offer to their dream school?

they are still grouped with the rest of the GEP boys

t-score is not important to anyone once entered into Sec 1. everyone starts from the same starting line

for non-DSA students, the t-score is merely an entrance ticket and nothing more
