      mummy so kiasu:

Am I right to say that no point for mainstream students to try academic DSA, even their SA1 result is 90% & above? They will not be given a chance to sit for the test nor interview? Academic DSA is for GEP students only. Mainstream students could only apply for Sport DSA.

why no point ? if results have been consistently good, give it a try!

who knows what will happen during the 4 days of PSLE - flood, traffic incidents causing delays, sickness, injury, stomach upset etc etc ... by then too late to decide to take DSA .....

Agreed. We should think positive, quite number of mainstream students DSAed to top schools. Especially for NUSH/DUMH.

May be for rgs/nygh it is possible to dsa via academic but for ri may be abit tough.
I rem a boy who tried to dsa to ri via guitar but was rejected and instead he was accepted by a renowned music sch.

It is difficult to DSA to RI academics but there are students who do. Some of our forummer's sons did. Guitar falls under Music domain, not Academic?

yes yes, my DS class of 42 boys and girls - mainstream, only a few did not get DSA offers

Anyone can share some experience with HCI DSA? My DS got smops gold award, and his SA1 overall is well above 80% (math is 95), however according to his tution teacher, it's not good enough to DSA to HCI. And we have already submitted the online application for DSA to HCI, according to the online information, only short listed applicants will be receiving the email for test. (but for the other schools, including RI, as long as you submit application and pay test fee, you will be eligible for the test anyway). On the other hand, one of my friend told me, as long as you can get silver award and above in SMOPS and has reasonable good school result, chances of DSA to HCI or NYGS will be quite high. His DD got silver and DSAed to NYGS 2 years ago. I am very confused now......

no worry! you DS has good chance in HCI's DSA based on what u describe

This year, RI will be relised , if they choose not to offer to the top mainstream pupils, most of the top pupils will be accepting offers from HCI/NUSH or even DUMH and they will be no appeal after accepting the offers. Personally I feel RI or other schools should release data regarding DSA. e.g. how many applicants applied, how many GEP/mainstream/sports students accepted, etc. There are so much speculations among parents, teachers and pupils. It did cause confusion and wrong perception of the school.

Plus this year RI and NUSH selection camp (2nd round) are on the same date, and I checked with RI teacher, not possible to change the date. Make a wise decision if lucky you have to.
they always put it on the same days ...... every year !

and for the top 4, every year they receive at least a thousand applications via DSA

The route now is just try DSA to your first choice and if dun get use PSLE. However heard the new IP schools have gone around schools to invite their top academic pupils to apply for their DSA. Mostly just need to sit for GAT will do.

But RI does not have selection camp. Which stage are you referring to RI? GAT or Interview? I thought there're a few dates available for both stages? GAT - 19, 20 & 22 June 2012, Interview - 16 July 2012 - 25 July 2012 (PM). But NUSH selection camp is only 2 days right? & it's fixed date right?
