DSA 2012
-
Some parents have perception that DSA is meant to be for GEP students. This perception is probably right for those who score > 80%. I started reading this thread since last year. I felt so stressed when I read it cos I'm not sure if my DS can get > 80% this year.
The stressed level shoot up even higher in the beginning of the year when my DS P6 English & Science teachers claimed that his cohort of GEP students has the lowest standard compared to all the other years GEP students.
I was asking myself, what if my DS can't get >80%? Can he do well for PSLE when the school only start training them in July? Worse, I don't even know his standard for mainstream paper.
I shared all the info in this forum to my DS. He's aware that he has to score > 80% if he wants to try for DSA. I'm not pressurizing him. I just want to set the expectation right. If he wants to try DSA, he has to work hard. -
But geppers who score is more than 80% has to go thru another hurdle which is the intervirw.
I heard that there are kids who did not do well during the interview and hence did not get co/wl from the dsa sch. -

not surprising for RI year 5 to go HCI -- the centre for humanities studies is in HCI
But RI also have Humanities studies right?
but traditionally, humanities scholars are clustered in HCI, dating from the old PROMSHO days of MOE policy -

Are you referring to RI? Interview for GEP students for RI DSA is quite simple. It is just a procedure, as long as the students don't screw up and scored above 80% will be fine. But geppers who score is more than 80% has to go thru another hurdle which is the intervirw.

I knew there was last year one GEP student did not \"behave\" well during interview. He had used some \"not so nice\" language when he was waiting outside the interview room. He was given a rejection even he had done well in his SA1. -

:wrongmove:[/quote]It's not that stressful nor difficult. Certainly I don't think my dd nor her friends complained about it being stressful. The panel isn't there to trick the kids. Sometimes it's the parents who get nervous and pass on this stress to the kids, asking them to memorize standard answers or stressing how important the DSA process etc. Keep cool, tell the child it's just chatting with the teachers. When the kids are calm they'll perform better.
For questions like potatos and oranges, there's no correct answer. So why worry about it? -
