My DS is in year 2 IP class. May I know is there any "Talks" about year 3 subjects combination? E.g. what subjects combination are available? what is the selection criteria?

Understand some others IP schools already had theirs.

Thank you

A close fren of my gal whose brother had chosen ACSI over RI despite having an agg score of 27+....
There were some others whose scores similar to him were there too....

To each his own....
My neighbour's kid, a brilliant boy from ACS Junior, also chose ACSI over RI. Comes from family of ex-Rafflesians from grandfather to aunties and uncles and their spouses to his parents. His mum told us that he talked to them couple by couple telling them to let him go ACSI. We find it refreshing that a kid of his age has such convictions, indeed to each his own.
Totally agreed.

I knew of a boy. Head prefect of a popular pri sch, school team of a popular sport that had won several zone and national trophies. with T-score of 266. Get into RI via S1 posting, not from GEP. After 3 months, he requested to transfer out of RI. In RI, he was in the worst class, there were many \"head perfects\", many sport school team captains. He was \"nothing\" in RI, feel damn \"small\" and demoralize.

again : it is to each of its own.......

Yes am going to appeal but don't know if we should..

RI COP is 263. I think he missed by 0.xxxxxx. Should try to appeal. All the best!
To my experience, 263 to appeal into RI will be placed in the last of the last class.

263 in ACS(I) would be in the top 2nd class.

Why you want to be the last???

Hi autolycus.
I just called up ACSI on some enquiries.
To my surprise, the lady whom I spoke to told me that all the languages French/German/Japanese are held offsite at the MOELC centre. However they may provide one way transport to the Lang centre for the majority eg. French/German

Do you know who can I actually ask in ACSI to confirm as it will impact the decision. We need to submit our decision by tomorrow.
As a start to introduce & get the child to be interested, I would hope to minimize the transportation hassle & possible disruption (eg clash with CCAs/too rush etc. )
Thanks.

Yes, I was told the same by the office. Only MSP is taught in ACSI. French and Japanese in MOELC in Newton and the rest like German, Bahasa Indonesian are all conducted in the two MOELC in Bishan.

Are these language lessons held once or twice per week?

My DS is taking Japanese as 3rd Lang. Japanese and French classes are held in Newton. Once a week, every Tue from 3.30 - 6.45pm. Transport was arranged by the school, cost $10 per month for one way trip. Any CCA falls on Tue, students will attend classes on Thu, but no transport provided. You have to arrange your own transport.

Understand from my son that 3rd Lang is not easy. Dropout rate is high. The textbooks are not cheap, cost about S$100++. Do consider carefully.

Sometimes I wonder why still go for the dsa if having so much doubts...given these are also very good schools. Personally, it's a waste of everyone's time having a go at other schools when ultimately, there's only one school that matters.

Ok...it's yr choice, not mine :imcool:

I agree. Seems logical. However, after psle exams, you are in a better position to accept or reject offer from the 2nd choice school. The 2nd school is a plan B in case you do badly in psle.

To some parents or students, there are only 4 Sec SCHOOLs in Singapore. Two boy schools and two girl schools. if can't get into any of these schools, any other schools are the same, it doesn't matter anymore.... šŸ˜„

\"Let our DCs decide their course of action\"

A lot of parents mentioned in this forum that at 12 years old, DCs are still very young and still not sure what they want, so it is better for the parent to make the final decision, DCs inputs are only for reference....

I feel a little confuse here. So should we let our DCs decide or the parents should make the final decision?

GoodDad, like what the others have said, it all depend on the maturity of the kids.

I actually allow my DS to make decision on his choice of school since P1. I brought him to 2 primary schools and told him some info of the 2 schools. In the end, he made the decision to go to a primary school whereby the academic result is not so good. But he's happy there.

Then when he was being selected for GEP, again he was given 2 choices of schools, he again made the decision to go for one with lower academic result. & he is happy there.

Now, he's again given 2 choices of sec schools. I'll definitely leave it to him to decide but will offer my opinions.

I think most importantly, if parents decide to allow their DC to make decisions, parents should respect the decision. Do not ever bring up those words of \"if\" or \"should have\" (like you should have chosen the other sch, etc) subsequently when the DC do not do well in the choice of schools.

So, in the end which school did your DS choose? Will he do it again to choose the \"less popular\" one or the one that produces the most president scholars?
