Does anyone know if International students are eligible to enter local secondary schools via DSA?
Do you mean international students who are studying P6 in local school or who are coming to Singapore for Sec One? -

possible, however the usual selection process, must produce existing school results, plus sit for entrance exams papers etc. for some schools… etc -
Hi there, is anyone applying to Singapore Chinese Girl’s School or Cedar Girl’s School or River Valley High School?
Is there anyone of you who have applied to these schools via DSA? I would like to know more.
You see, I have 1 leadership role, have won an award in a science competition, got plenty of "participation"s for maths olympiad… Do I stand a chance? -

Hi, suggest you call the school to find out what core areas they are looking for. Not sure if these are areas they are looking for. For example, for CCA, SCGS will be looking for dance, swimming, badminton, choir, etc etc. Ask them specifically. I am not sure what Cedar and RV are looking for, you can either check their website or ask them directly.Hi there, is anyone applying to Singapore Chinese Girl's School or Cedar Girl's School or River Valley High School?

Can't really tell if you have a good chance, hate to tell you this, but the credentials you presented doesn't sound very convincing to me for DSA for academic, but who knows, you might just get lucky.
All the best! -

Thanks! Think will try 2 dsa for experience purpose. Anyway, make no difference since gg to Aus for 2 yrs after my gg finishes her PSLE.
Curious... then why do PSLE? -
VALyap:
Yes you can. But I think you'll still have to check MOE's website on this, the usual compliance for foreign students or returning Singaporeans apply.ceepk:

As far as I know, there's no special treatment for Sports class, except that they do not do music and art for Sec 1, and more time is given to them for academics. They also have 2 form teachers instead of 1. In fact, to some extent, better treatment. So don't worry. As long as the boy is willing to give it a shot, he should survive the 6 years. And that's the crucial part, if he does not lose heart along the way. That's where parents play the morale boosting part.
The RI Math thingy is notoriously difficult to score in. :scared: Have your son go for SMOPS. If he can secure a gold or platinum that would be good.Zekezachzoom:
Thanks jtoh for your sound advice.
My DS did went for the NUS high science competition last year but unfortunately just got in to round 2. His school is sending him for RI math thingy this year ( in fact I m not sure to let him join as he is already very busy with track trainings and prefect duties). So... The answer to your question is he does not have any shining certificate yet;)
I am actually thinking along the line of using the academic route just not sure about the chances though. Also, is it true that most schools will group the sport DSA in one class and typically do not have very high expectation academically for this class?
As for DSA sports students all being in the same class, this varies from school to school. Some spread them out, some (like RI) group them all in the same class. The reason being they want to work around their competition schedules and to give them more attention knowing that they sometimes have to miss classes bec of training or competitions. I don't think the schools would focus any less academically on these students though. Maybe parents whose kids have children in DSA sports can comment. -

Just to manage your expectation…… what are listed here are very common, most kids from any good classes will have what you have or even better!…. if for DSA academic …you need to have much much better awards. your school results also must be consistently above 95% for all subjects…..from P4-6 onwards
