Nanyang Kindergarten

Two months ago, one K1 parent from Nanyang kindergarten 2ND session (12 noon – 3.15 pm) was very eager to join ICL, but was disappointed because no vacancy back then. Her child was born in 2007.


If this parent still interested or any other parents from Nanyang kindergarten interested, kindly contact teacher Ivy.

3) From the website it is stated that -


"We will place the child in the Wait List according to the priority phase.

The Priority phase will be given to the following:

Phase 1: Siblings of children currently studying in NYK
Phase 2: Siblings of ex-students of NYK
Phase 3: Children of ex-students (Parents) of Nanyang Kindergarten - Upon graduation from Nanyang Kindergarten
Phase 4A: Parents who are Nanyang Alumni

The remaining vacancy will then be given to the children in the Wait List based on first-come first-served basis."

The question I have is because the waitlist is phased based on priority, even if I am able to register early and pay the deposit I will not be able to secure a place as anyone who is in the priority phase will be given priority? Correct?

Example I am in queue no 14 and throughout the year there is a total of 200 people in the waitlist and there is only 60 vacancies. The first 60 of the 4 phases will be given the the 60 vacancies.

Is this example correct?

No probs. Actually Pat's and nanyang kindy are very different, hence not really comparable. Nanyang kindy is a kindergarten and not a full day childcare. And nanyang kindy is far far more affordable than Pat's. Any attempt to compare the two is akin to comparing chalk and cheese.


Having said that, I do have a friend whose daughter attends nanyang kindy in the morning, followed by a Montessori kindy ard newton area in the afternoon. Amazingly, this friend of mine is married to an American expat working in Singapore. Kiasuism is a common trait across all gender, religious and racial lines.

I was from a fully mandarin speaking kindy called Jubilee Kindergarten. Having spent 4 years of my formative years there (yup, even maths, music and movement, and art were all taught in mandarin), I must admit that there certainly are benefits. I am far more conversant and at ease in mandarin than many of my peers. Mandarin in many ways, is a subject that is harder to master than English. And an early childhood exposure gives me a lifelong love in the subject. Ironically, my child's mandarin is dismal.

Also regarding fees, I think both Pats and Nanyang work out to be quite the same especially when you calculate based on per hr. Nanyang has since increased their fees starting this year and it is not cheap anymore

The teachers at Nanyang are very pleasant. It was not as scary as I thought it would be... haha maybe it was my own fear of Chinese initially that made me worried abt Nanyang. So far no complaints abt that but they do not help you toilet train your kid

My son is happy there now (although he would rather not have to go to school at all!! hahaa) and is quite comfortable in learning Chinese but actually I am still looking to be impressed with the programme there! oops!

My daughter is currently attending Chiltern House Turf Club and has just been offered to join Nanyang Kiddy Pre-Nursery. Anyone can share with me whats the difference in the curriculum or how different is their teaching approach? Really appreciate any reply. Thanks!

Hi any comments about Pats Sch vs Nanyang Kindy?

My eldest went to Pats from Playgroup to K2. My second went to Pats for Nursury then Nanyang for K1 and K2. My youngest went to Nanyang for Playgroup (1 year), then i decided to switch him back to Pat's till he finished K2.

My kids went to Pats Ridgewood branch in Mt Sinai. [Note :This is before Patricia Koh retired]. I highly recommend Pats Sch vs Nanyang Kindy.

The teachers at Pats are qualified, caring and works well with kids. The curriculum and methodology are very good. It focused more on engaging the child's interest, broadening horizons, equipping skills rather than rote learning/memorising more words. There is one english and one chinese teacher to a class (max 16). Its better to go for full day program at Pats if you are a working mum. With the govt subsidy, it cost a $200+ more (as of 2011) than the half day, and your child interact with teachers who speaks good English and Chinese all day till 5.30pm.

On the waitlist, my experience was a faster way to get into Pats Schoolhouse is to accept the afternoon session first. Most parents remain on the waitlist for long because they insist on the morning session. As a current student, your priority will be highest to get into morning program. Both my sons did a 2-3 months of afternoon classes before getting a slot in morning/ full day.

I am pulling my boy out from current school to attend nanyang kindergarten k2 next year. Can someone let me know beside good Chinese in nanyang, are they good in English and maths? Please help me…

I wonder if any parents send their children to the enrichment classes organised by Nanyang Kindergarten? My child is in Nursery next year and I’m thinking of "Sketch & Splash" and "Gymnastics". Would appreciate if you could give me some feedback on these classes.


He currently attends the English speech and drama enrichment on Tuesday and I attended one of the sessions a few weeks ago and was not impressed by the way the class was conducted so I’m unlikely to continue with that.
