25hourmaid:
i understand the 6th choice is like wasting it for putting Xinmin. my wife don't really like Dunman Sec and Ngee Ann is a bit far away.
If that is the case, then I would say let's leave the choices as they are. Chances of him getting in Maris Stella is quite high if you have already taken into account the SAP status.vynx:
yup, i understand Maris Stella is a SAP school. however, looking through the CCA of Chung Cheng (Main), there's alot of activities that are Chinese related. Maris Stella offer something different.
my son score A for his CL2 (to me it is a miracle as he always fail his CL2 Paper 2). my son has to buck up his Chinese and he has promised he will try (he has done that for his PSLE)
my son's form teacher just called to remind to submit the Application. i have told her the choices and same question as you have mentioned - Maris Stella is a SAP school. same thing i have told her and she think if my son do not \"switch off\" - not paying attention, he should be fine.
as for the last choice, i don't know what to put after going through the list many times and decided on Xinmin. any suggestion?
For the 6th choice, I don't know where you are located, but based on your choices, I would think you are somewhere in the North East area. Not sure how convenient Ngee Ann and Dunman Sec is to you, but they sound more logical than XM as a last choice, but that said, considering that you have made quite good choices for 1st to 5th choices, it is quite unlikely for your to be posted to your 6th choice school so you may want to leave it as it it, of course, knowing very well that it's sort of wasting that choice by putting XM as the 6th choice. It's all up to you, as I think your chances of getting in MS is quite high.
i will leave the choices as they are. thanks all for giving the advices esp. you - 25hrmaid -

I'm making a gut-feeling guess that Cedar's COP will be higher than St Nick this year. If you can't make it to 1st choice, likely can't make it to 2nd choice either.
Since your DD's score is close to St Nics COP last year, there is a risk. But no harm putting it as first choice, since posting is by merit. But I think you have to exercise your choice for 3rd and 4th school carefully also. Cedar COP is 246 last year, not sure if it will increase this year.lizawa:
advice from anyone?
Bear in mind St Nick has affiliation to pri sch. So if St Nick pri cohort has done well this year and most of them are staying, fewer places are available for non-affiliate.
yes agree with lizawa your 3rd and 4th choice very impt.
thank you very much for your advise. submitted already, keep my finger cross and hope she can get in, prepared to appeal. -

sorry, i know a bit off topic here but any idea where those GEPers end up when they grow up? always in the top echelon of society?
not necessary. some are doing impressively well. some are holding regular job, etc. nobody knows they were GEPers. And many others i know are not in spore anymore. settled in the states.
3 of my ex colleagues DD are from GEP , all are obtaining Doctoral degree in overseas Uni with scholarship. -

How about ACSI?HI all
After several posts in various threads, lots of stress and tears (literally), this is the final list for my son who scored 255 +2:
1st choice: RI (almost zero chance, but filling it in juz to try our luck) (259 COP)
2nd choice: HCI (COP 257)
3rd choice: NJC (COP 257)
4th choice: RVHS (COP 251)
5th choice: CHS (COP 248)
6th choice: VS (COP 245)
just want to confirm that, if he can't get into any of the first three, he can at least get into RV or if RV is also out, he can still get CHS.
thks v much. -

Hi Micko07,
And your evidence for that is?lolkthanksbye:
One more thing though. Don't go for an IP school unless you want a large dose of classroom politics, homework and pressure.
I studied in an IP school, and I really enjoyed myself. The homework is managable (and it teaches you good time managemet skills, something absolutely necessary for Uni), the peer pressure was healthy and my classmates were great. Competitive, but always helpful and certainly not the kind to stab you in the back. The pressure comes not so much from others, but more from yourself actually IMO.
All of the things you said are found in most schools, not just IP schools.
Go for it livewith_vanilla!
Mind telling which IP school you are attending   -
Hi advice, pl.
T-score: 236 + 2 (HCL)
Residence: Bedok Reservoir Road
1st Choice: COP 240 (SAP sch) & a Band 1 sch (I missed out this important info when registered)
2nd Choice: COP 236 (SAP sch) & a Band 3 sch
3rd Choice: COP 232 (SAP sch) & a band 3 sch & with affiliated PS at lower COP.
4th Choice: COP 234 but a Band 1 sch
5th Choice: COP 236 but a Band 2 sch
I missed out the schools’ performance in O level and If I missed out 1st & 2nd choice I am likely to land in my 3rd choice school. So am I silly not to place 4th to 3rd choice. Apparently 5th choice is a waste.
If I could not get in the 1st choice sch and land in my 2nd choice sch and My mom died died want me to go to the 1st choice school which my t-score is 2 pts shy of the COP (based on '09) of the 1st choice sch, how do I go about to appeal and where can I obtain the information of the appeal procedure and on what ground I could succeed in my appeal.
Thank in advance. -
thks all for the kind words.
reason why ACSI is out is because he may not get into their IP programme if he doesn’t meet the cut off point. besides, since we r staying in toa payoh , travelling time takes about 1 hr plus the fact that it is compulsory to take 2 ccas in ACSI, so we have chosen RV instead. though the travelling time is longer than ACSI by about 20mins or so, it is guaranteed ip.
regards
