i think the low marks are due to grammar errors. work on grammar and proper see structure.
just realised it’s for p2. The essay is too short. The child has to expand it further. -
Thanks. I think standards have gone up by a lot since I last attended primary school. I’m sending her for enrichment. Let the professionals help her.

hi everybody, just my thoughts on this topic over some morning coffee ...
i'm a huge reader myself and like to discuss this topic too... though sometimes i find it's not always just having to read but also being aware of their surroundings. travel needn't always be overseas - i've taken the kids on trips in SG and we're still amazed at how much there is to do here- as for reading itself, my kids love stories but were not such avid readers until they were introduceed to reading materials that suit their style, i suppose we got to thank their teacher for that. i'm sure you parents agree sometimes it takes an \"outsider\" to convince your kids to o-b-e-y!! i think when it comes to reading, you must find their interest -- magazines newspapers or novels? fiction / non-fiction? even graphic novels are great. for a parent nothing makes me happierr than to see the kids read

It's precisely because of the positive feedback on KSP that I decided to give TAS a try. But I think too much hype la, like learning lab :roll:24hr-mum:
oh u mean the TAS not effective? the first time i heard not positive feedback. can tell me how tas teach compo, sleepy?
wat abt the compre?
TAS asked students to memorise the essay. I don't see any value add in this case. I have tonnes of model essays & award winning books at home. Good essays with personifications, tension building, etc. If I want my dd to learn creative writing through memorising essays, I do not need to send her to classes, right? I expect more than this from TAS.
And I noticed TAS took a long time to cover one theme. Sometimes as long as 4 to 5 weeks on one theme, basically memorise over & over again. I'm not impressed la.
Compre is not satisfactory either. Usually only the first few questions were covered in class, the rest as homework. I am fine with homework if they went through the compre thoroughly and were taught the technique to tackle compre questions. I don't see that le. End up I need to sit with my dd to coach her how to answer every single question. Frankly speaking, if I have to go through every question with her, how is it different from asking her to do assessment books at home? I also sit with her.
TAS teachers are passionate about teaching. This I agreed. It is a valuable attribute so I think TAS did a great job in hiring teachers with right attitude.
Just sharing my opinion la. TAS supporters please don't hammer me

All students know how stressful it is to put in the time and effort to write essays, and to top that off editing and revising your completed work is a difficult task. Writing a quality essay is not always easy.So we use some http://www.bestresearchpaper.co.uk services to complete essay and research writing.

My DS too is weak in his essay writing.
One sunny day, father and I wanted to go camping. So, they went looking for a campsite. On the way, they spotted a campsite. They were very happy that they have finally found a campsite.
After that, they saw a bear at their campsite. So, they threw their boots at the bear and chased it away. They were relieved that they had chased the bear away.
The sun was setting. So, they made a campfire and roasted marshmallows. After that, they went to sleep.
The next morning, they started to pack and they drove back home happily.
I believe the main reason is that he cannot construct a proper sentence, and that affects his comprehension too.
His grammar is like all over the place. Compared to my DS, I think your DD's grammar is better.
However, perhaps she needs to illustrate more on the story. What she has written is just too short.
By the way, if you notice, the first line says \"Father and I\", then after that it's a story about \"They\" she is writing.
Maybe she has forgotten that she has actually included herself in the story.
By the way, I am not sure if sending our kids to enrichment centres, like Morris Allen and all, can help them to improve their writing.
I really hope to get tips from parents out there.
Is there any way we can assist our children at home? -

An essay can have many purposes, but the basic structure is the same no matter what. You may be writing an essay to argue for a particular point of view or to explain the steps necessary to complete a task.
Either way, your essay will have the same basic format.
If you follow a few simple steps, you will find that the essay almost writes itself. You will be responsible only for supplying ideas, which are the important part of the essay anyway.
Perhaps one of the most difficult tasks any writer has is choosing a http://essayboards.com to write about. Whether you are writing a personal essay or a scientific report, it’s important to start by reading the assignment carefully. Once you know what the instructor is looking for, you can begin to play with various topic ideas. -
I suggest reading short stories from Enid Blyton. The idea of introduction, development and ending is wrapped up within a few pages, allowing the child to have a better idea of what is doable within the short time frame.
You can select adventure stories, add in some accident scenarios from newspaper, and get them into the habit of checking their grammar at the end of it. This I think, will be the minimum a kid should know. The school will do idioms with them, but the child will also benefit from knowing more connectives, and ways of adding colors and tension to his writing. I do not sit down to do writing with my child, but every now and then, I will discuss writing methods with him for 10 min and I find that he will experiment with them.
He is not a great scorer because of spelling errors, but his stories flow and he enjoys writing them very much in both languages. He is never out of ideas, something which his teachers have commented on as well. He does read a lot and widely. I do not encourage Geronimo Stilton though he does have a few of those. It is full of new vocabulary but the sentences do not flow well and someone who is not well versed in English idioms will learn all the wrong things - the mousified version.
