ThreeSistersTuition:Hi ThreeSistersTuition, interested in these teachers. Any way to get contact number? Please PM me. Thanks!I just posted in another thread, but my sisters who are gifted in the violin, piano and flute are now taking new students since they freed some slots up. I know it's probably been discussed a lot here, but the teacher and their methods make all the difference! If you're looking for an inspiring teacher who isn't all about learning by rote and going by the book, but encourages your budding maestro to really listen to the music and find their own way, I've got two great teachers to recommend. They both have licentiates in the instruments they teach, and have both trained with renowned international musicians over the years. Both of them are gifted in music performance, music night is always a joy where we live. Contact me for their contact numbers if you need!
Cheers!

RE: How to teach EL creative writing and HCL compo wrting?
FB555:
Yup! Definitely agree that reading exposes kids to things outside of their little bubble, so yes I don't think tuition alone can boost writing skills I meant im lucky in the sense that i managed to find a tutor that exposes them to general knowledge and thinks abt long term , not just memorising thigs to repeat in the exams - won't work after they leave p6! I hate those compo books with lists hahaha..My son is now in sec sch and going strong ... But ..Wish I could say the same abt their mandarinThough reading does not necessary equate to fantastic writer, reading is still necessary to increase the child's vocabulary bank, general knowledge and generate new ideas.
Personally, it is hard for me to teach my kids creative writing and there is no straight forward answer to it just by referencing to writing guide books. It is not so simple just writing the setting, body of compo and conclusion. There is a lot more to do with language used, grammar and content. So i am also struggling to coach my kids in this area.
So tutor might be able to help teach the techniques but the child must put in effort as well. Like all skills, writing also need a lot of practices over long period of time to perfect it. There is no short cut as far as i know.

RE: How to teach EL creative writing and HCL compo wrting?
My kids’ English book “library” takes up two whole ikea shelves but their Chinese collection… Is like 3 books… So I would say we’re in the same boat. when they’re young they were always coming to me with mini books and cute comic strips in english. When they started school proper I decided better to put them with a good tutor to improve the writing “academically” - cos reading a lot doesn’t mean they can automatically write well for exams tutor was defo good choice for me.

You may check with RI admin office. For RGS, the sch has arranged with vendor to provide the transport either 2pm or 2.30pm and the girls just pay $55 annually ( $5 per trip ) for this.2oo22oo5:
Hi,
Yesterday just attended the RI talk. Realised that my DS chosen Spanish for his 3rd language, the MOELC is located in Newton.
Will anyone experience be able to advise how your kids travel to Newton MOELC? Believe the kids maybe late for lesson as by the time dismissal, its already 1.30pm.
Thank you.
Quite silly, it's such a cheap taxi fare from RG to the centre, my niece normally shares a cab with friends (works out to about the same as a bus ride each!) -

RE: Hotel to recommand near HK disneyland for family of 5?
i went to Hong Kong with my son just recently... while we may always hear horror stories such as these of kidnaps, there's hardly any cause for major alarm... just adopt the same vigilance as we do here at home after all, isn't HK home to many parents just like us?
we enjoyed Disneyland, and found it much more enjoyable than universal studios SG... perhaps because we went in winter and the weather was a nice escape
look on the websites for disneyland hotels, we managed to score a good deal for hotel+entrance tickets
or if you're staying in other hotels for the duration, it's no problem commuting to disneyland, the train gets you there in a jiffy! -
RE: All About English Creative Writing
hi krisvan8, tsk tsk tsk copying composition work is the saddest way to learn anything i remember having to do this in my second language lessons back at school! being an expat mom here, after school-hopping a lot, i was pretty upset that my kids would have to go through the same thing because i've come to find this learn-by-the-book method most annoying! a few years back i found them a good tutor whom i find caters to their individual needs in language skills - if you're interested you can drop me a PM... (tried PM-ing you, i identify with what you feel! but my messaging system doesn't work???) P6 is a big year... i think all parents with kids taking That Big Exam can identify!!! :xedfingers:
