All About Ballet

With the new age restrictions set by RAD, 6 years old may be a good age to start learning ballet. The minimum age a girl can take her Grade 1 exams is 7 years old on 1 January of the year she is taking the exam (i.e she needs to be 8 years old unless she is born on 1 January!) In any case, I believe interest is more important - eventually whether a girl can persist up the grades really depends on her interest.Hi
Is it too late to start ballet at 6yo?
Noticed that SBA new classes are for the younger batch.
Kindly advise.
Thanks! -

Hi!
Sorry to hear your plight... I am sure there are ballet teachers who are willing to take her in as Grade 5, especially if her foundation is strong (hearing that she got distinction for Grade 3 despite jumping grades). How old is your DD? I am just thinking if she is in P6 this year, you may want to take it easy and stay on with the current school for a while more since the pressure is on PSLE now.
I noticed you are looking at CC for alternatives... you need to be aware that CC class have a larger number of students as well (about 20 in my girls class). Then when it comes to coaching class, DD ballet teacher create a coaching class and combine all her students of the same grades (from two CC that she is teaching. This can add on to more students. Other than the class size, I basically have no complaints for CC ballet classes as the teachers are equally qualified and caring. And many students scored merits and distinctions in the RAD exams as well.
Thanks for your info on regular class size & combining class for coaching class..
My gal p5 this year..
She will not agree to stop ballet and put on hold de
Thanks for your kind thoughts & advice though:)
Anyway, trying out a cc class hope will work out well..
Class size shd be ard 12-15..
Wish us luck :imanangel: -

need advise…
my girl is in Grade 1 now, will be taking her RAD exam for Grade 1 in April 2017.
am now deciding whether to register her for CSTD Pre-Modern Jazz Dance, exam in Nov 2016, coaching class will be starting in June.
is CTSD Jazz Dance necessary? my gal loves ballet… -
Iristay, jazz isn’t necessary. If you are talking abt use for DSA, then I would say ballet is more useful. But just for the kids to enjoy different styles of dance…I know of kids who enjoy jazz or tap but don’t like ballet. early exposure to different styles just allow them to learn more and maybe find which they really prefer. My dd started out with ballet and took up jazz in p3… Currently enjoying both.

Since your DD loves ballet, let her do ballet. Jazz dance is not necessary but most girls prefer it as it is more lively compared to the slower contemporary ballet. When they go up higher grades, it is not uncommon to see the girls practising 3 times a week for their ballet. So good to focus on one unless your DD has varied interests.need advise...
