I think since that she has continue with class without taking exam, she should have those fundamental step in G1 and G2. However, with the RAD change if their syllabus, it would be more tough as seem that there are more steps child need to know and able to do it. Ultimately, it will still depend parent and child to decide whether they want to take the exam or just enjoy the ballet class.

When is the yearly application for DSA in ballet? With the new age requirement imposed by RAD (have to be 7 years old as at 1 January of the year you taking the exams), kids can only go for Grade 1 exams when they are in Primary 2. So by the time they are Primary 6, they will only just had their Grade 5 exams in April. As ballet results will only be received around July, am curious if can make it for the DSA application.

DSA schools will need to review their ballet grade requirement to be in-line with the new RAD exam requirement.

TKGS requires a 12 yr old to have vocational grade for DSA

                    Hi everyone,

I would like to find out more information about CSTD, such as what are the available grades, how marks are awarded etc. Where would be a good place to obtain these details. Many thanks in advance. Cheers

                      CSTD and RAD

I called Le Grand and they told me that their student go to CSTD exam before grade 2, and go to RAD from grade 2.

According them, the reason is that CSTD is more technical requirement and stronger foundation than RAD before grade 2.

                      Is it true?

                        Hi Emma,

I strongly suggest you choose either CSTD or RAD and stay with it throughout your child ballet learning.

This is my experience with my daughter’s ballet school. She started off with CSTD. After passing grade 2, her ballet teacher resigned. The new ballet teacher wants to convert her to RAD but refuse to promote her to take RAD grade 3. Instead, she was required to stay back a year to do RAD grade 2.

If you have intention of going for DSA, the higher the grade your child reaches at P6, the better. We have DSA intention so having to retain 1 year to convert from CSTD to RAD is not an option for us. As a result, I have to pull my daughter out from that ballet school because the school refuses to continue her on CSTD.
