Questions tested in exams are way out of the box and it's only through exposure to diff assessment books that kids gain more knowledge and improve in the Section B (open-ended section). Popular science assessment section is my 'library'.

:goodpost: - Yes, it was thru this thread that I get to know the different assessment books available in the \"market\" and which are the ones \"worth investing\" in :thankyou: :lovesite:

:thankyou: Janet for starting this thread :udawoman:

        Hey gals,

You are most welcome !!! :rahrah:
We are in the same boat...so I understand that frustration. Without this thread, there is nowhere we can share useful tips.

I saw that new assessment hashroop mentioned...but not in the mood to glance at the book now. Was at IMM yesterday, but told myself to stay away from Popular and I did :rahrah:

Proud to say my Science has improved quite a bit...sufficient to answer son's queries. I find it interesting to stand at the Science section to read the questions in books...esp new publications. Must find time to check out that new title.

Last weekend was at popular when I came across this book (actually more of a guide book than an assessment)

          I-science by chua tung kian
"The only handbook you need for Psle" quoted on front cover. I got carried away as I stood there reading almost half the book. It’s a good book if lots of myths, clarification, explaination. I think i may get it for DS.
One interesting note I found out why cockroaches when sprayed with insecticide over turn and why their legs will move vigorously for sometime.

Hi, this was the only guile book that I bought for PSLE. Like it because is not so thick and easier to complete the topic.

yes its meant as a guide book but with interesting pointers. I didnt buy as i actually stood there reading almost the entire book (was killing time as kids and hubby were catching a movie at Nex). I came home and discuss certain issue with DS. Im still contemplating to get the book sometime soon.

Hi everyone, I m new here. M shocked to c so many different types of Science Assessment Books and I have yet to buy any for my P4 boy. Oh dear! So far, he has not done any except school's. I have noticed that the questions asked during the exams are out of the box. School textbook info is limited and science lessons also limited. Poor children.

                Hi!
I also didn't buy any assessment book for primary3 term 1 ,cos I didn't expect section B come.Wow, its very hard for children. They neeed lot of practice.

Hey, that's interesting...that point you mentioned about cockroaches. A pity I don't have the luxury to kill time by standing in Popular to read Science guide now 😢 I think I will try to go to Popular to check out that book. Thanks 😄

When my son was in P3, I found that it takes time to train him to reply Section B answers in a 'scientific way'...no need to have perfect grammar but the keywords must be there to get those marks. It was only after much practice that my son was able to handle those open-ended questions and at P5 this year, he is still trying to score in that section.
I try to find past year papers with answer keys, so as to show him what the examiner is looking out for.

                      Hi Guys,

I’m new here. Currently I’m coaching my Primary 4 kid in her studies.
Just the other day, we came across 1 question which asked for the life-cycle of a dung beetle. I’m not sure if this is a bit tough or ridiculous. Are students nowadays expected to watch national geographic the whole day?

Hi, saw this two PSLE Sciecne Assessment book (released 2011) in Popular:

                        - Pass with PSLE A* Science

                        - PSLE Thematic Challenging Science Revision Paper

Title sound attrative but may have a problem to complete it as school is reopening soon.
