How long does it take to take first graded exam? My boy is learning violin for about 5 mths now, teacher said it takes at least 1-2 year before taking exam.

Only take grade 8 important. haha. That's my ds1's teacher's opinion. So my ds took only gr 4 & 8. -
Can skip one meh? I thought it's better to take step by step? At least can experience mah...How long does it takes for your ds to take the first exam?

Well, it's not as if the skills are not learnt along the way. My ds started late at 8 years old though. Started with Suzuki but switched to another teacher when he was in book 3 or 4 after learning about 2 years. He did his Grade 4 exam that year then and his gr 8 exam 3.5years after that. -

No .... his teacher does ... how I train him? haha. And he practices on his own. -

Yes, i sat in, but i didn't really do much. It was 1-to-1 and just using suzuki books and they had group lessons every 2mths or so. I didn't have to learn to play the violin, and no, I didn't really help him except to scream out \"out of tune!\" when I hear him practice. After a while, it just got way beyond me.
