NJC Open House is from 13-15 April. Their website says need to register by 6th April. Too bad, I saw too late. Well I'm going down today to take a chance. Hope they allow me into their 'High School Tour'

Hope it is not a problem for you, tisha, happy touring today ;)....also trying to make the trip happen today with kid too....

Thank you maid for the valuale input. If need to listen to Principal's talk then can only go one school at the time lah. 21/5 - need to think and 28/5 is easier.
Yes, it is true. Attending Open House is VERY, VERY important to motivate the child. Nothing beats visiting the school, talking to the students/teachers there to get a real 'feel' of the place, been there, done that! :love:Brenda10:
Hi maid,
We are not doing DSA but will select one or two to go for open house and heard this will motivate the children if they like that school.
But to me, listening to the Principal's Talk is equally important, and that's where the clash lies in most schools, it is a matter of timing for the Principal's Talk. -

How come is on weekday ? :?tisha:

Give them a call by phone. If registration's closed just go down anyway. I believe the registration's just so they know the number for logistical purposes, like how many students to deploy to guide the tours. Have fun.25hourmaid:
I think we should not confuse parents here with Open House for JCs. This thread is for P6 Parents who are interested in the Open House of Secondary Schools.
Yup, agree with 25hrmaid. I called Victoria School. I was told that the date for their OH is yet to be confirmed and once confirmed will be update on their website. -
25hourmaid:
You are most welcome. I suspect a lot of schools tend to hold their Open House on the same day so as to force the parents to decide which schools they want to go to for the Open House and which schools to apply DSA for. It's been like that for years, usually it is the last two Saturdays of May, that's when they start the DSA procedure and hold the Open House and that's where they all try to get the limited attention of the P6 Parents.[/quote]I've always thought it was silly for all of them to hold it on the same day. A couple of years ago, RGS, NYGH and SCGS all held theirs on the same day. What's the purpose in making students and parents choose which school's Open House to go for? I'd rather they take their time exploring my school, learning more about it than rushing off to another school.
Thank you maid for the information. Look like quite a few girl school open house all same date on 21 May except DHS on 28 May.Brenda10:

Definitely go for the Open Houses. It gives you a vibe and understanding of the school culture and what they have to offer. Sometimes you may have one school in mind, but after the Open House, you realize it's not what you imagined it to be. Or you may not have a school in mind but just fall in love with it after you visit it.25hourmaid:

I totally agree, maid. The Principal's talk and other academic/CCA related talks are important to me too. That's why when I was doing my rounds I timed the visits with the talks. That plus taking the school tour etc meant a real rush from school to school.

I remember one school we visited was so humid and hot, the parents all refused to go on the tour because we were too hot to bother. Then when the kids came back from the school tour and said none of the classrooms were air conditioned, we all stared at one another. Lucky it's them doing the studying not us or we'll collapse in the heat. -
