But if this is to Be Implemented, Or Even Experimented in some Pilot Sch, MOE has to Co-ordinate the Effort.
If Implemented Full Scale, Literally Thousands of Parents Will Be Involved ....

Good suggestion! If there's such a scheme, I'll surely sign up ( even volunteering I'm willing to do - but on a much less reduced frequency of course!) Pay cannot be so \"miserly\", but also not expecting an excessive amt...
Thought now our current sch system has this position called the Teacher's Aide ? I was int. in the job before, but if not wrong, the pay totally puts me off then!

What's the Job Scope? Think it's NOT Teaching Related.
Just A Nice Name for Someone to Take Over the Admin Part in Class, Like Collecting $$$$ for Donation Cards, Enrichment Class, Compiling Name List for this and that Activity ....
Some Such Non-teaching Activity. So Can Relieve T of these Chores and T can Concentrate on Teaching ....

Roles & Responsibilities of Teacher Aides
1. Schools hire teacher assistants or teacher-aides to increase their capacity and supports teachers in their tasks. The teacher-aides may be deployed to relieve teachers of administrative and non-professional duties. They can also help teachers in classroom management, so that the teachers can focus on teaching or adopt more student-centred strategies.
2. While teacher-aides are deployed to support teachers, teachers remain responsible for the planning and delivery of lessons and school activities. Unlike relief teachers, the teacher-aide cannot stand-in for teachers in the conduct of teaching and instructional duties.
Employment of Teacher Aides
3. As the circumstances and needs of schools differ, we have given schools the autonomy to engage relief teachers or support services such as teacher-aides. These services can be paid from the manpower grant that the Ministry allocates to each school. This year, we increased the manpower grant to allow schools greater flexibility and capacity to support our teachers. We understand that to date, around 60 schools have engaged teacher-aides.

Think you're right, FUNX, teacher's asst is more to do with the non-teaching aspects of the job. So, your suggestion is a totally new job scope.
Wonder which KS forumner's MP is the Edn Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen ? Maybe they can pay him a visit in his Meet the People's sessions, esp so when this yr is Election year!

I think it is a great idea too! Nowadays, there are many many 'onz' parents, working or stay-at-home parents who personally research and coach kids. I even know some are professionally trained ex-teachers who are very qualified to be in these roles. They should really consider tapping into such resources.[/quote]I do not think it is only tapping into this pool of resources. MOE need to look into syllabus coverage as well. If what is covered in school is basic, and students are expected to pick up \"extras\" from outside (tuition, guide / assessment books, parents), then with extra resources will also not address the issue.

It's Not Easy to Achieve 1:20 T-to-student Class ratio for the Whole Nation. Despite The Many Efforts by MOE, the Class Size Remains Almost status Quo at About 1: 40, at Best 1:30.
Root of the Problem is Lack of Sufficient T and Facilities (ClassRoom).
But it is Noted that there is a Large Pool of Well-Educated Home-Makers who R the Untapped Potential. Many of them have made their presence felt in this Web site.

Hopefully, they dun expect volunteering. Must pay properly.
What is tested should be taught in school; students should not be expected to learn more on their own (which is likely thru' tuition / parents). -
