Another classic example…
"GST is to help the poor"…
Like how a former PAP MP puts it… "Why break a person’s leg then give him clutches?"
Naturally, that MP is no longer in PAP. -

Social media shakes up Singapore political terrain
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_singapore/view/1128130/1/.html
\"...Popular blogger Lee Kin Mun, who runs the satirical site mrbrown.com, said the PAP was not used to the spontaneous, two-way communication in social media.
\"They have full control of the media here, so you've got mainstream media, papers and TV stations and radio stations toeing the line for you and disseminating your views, your spin to the public,\" he told AFP.
\"Now you can't be shielded any more... You tell people to 'like' you on your Facebook page, I will 'like' just to go in there and say something I don't like about you,\" he added....\"
Moral of the story? Don't anyhow add friends or ask people to 'like' your facebook page? -

That's because it was forbidden to use the Internet for political broadcasts in 2006. Without the videos, everything is just kopitiam talk. Talk is cheap and easy to brush away as rumours. But the videos added a new dimension of reality to the whole thing. Rumours are no longer considered as \"rumours\" if people are able to see it for themselves....
I too wonder why this GE social media seems to play a bit part compared to 2006. Probably in 2006, social media was not so \"matured\" then or maybe i wasn't so into surfing the net yet?...
Think about it. How did you form your impression of TPL? From what people say, or from the Youtube video of her stomping her feet and of course, that Kate Spade picture. If you had not seen it for yourself, do you think you will personally have any real opinion of her, good or bad? -

From the many sources that I'd read, I agree that posts are mostly PRO-SINGAPORE and thereby maybe 'anti-PAP'.
Do you agree with the writer's point? Do you think social media is anti-PAP?ChiefKiasu:

This is inevitable coz public voices are seldom heard/printed by mainstream media and has to go 'underground' in a way. Once it is long suppressed and have to go 'underground', it is more difficult to engage in a meaningful form since public manifestation of such disagreement of policies are generally not welcomed or brushed aside or taken as 'noise'. People 'hide' behind the screen, each offering different opinions on policies, some are noteworthy while some have to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The current situation is brought by PAP themselves when they controlled the media to voice only positive things instead of otherwise and people are forced to voice grievances in social media (the way I grumbled about MCYS; about talking to them also no use despite having the facts and are powerless to do anything to them when my school licenses are dependent on them). This 白色恐怖 (fear of white) finally burst itself in full power for this election and more power to come for subsequent elections.
Unless mainstream media allow presentation of 'noises' and the authorities deal with such 'noises' constructively instead of issuing blanket/high handed replies, very few intellectual ones are willing to spend their time and effort to put their rationale voices to them (save breath).
Mainstream media give voices of PAP, social media give alternative voices of the general public. Sooner or later maybe ST can close shop...
:goodpost: -
Mediacorp's coverage of GE results reached over 2.4m viewers
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1128167/1/.html
Erm... y Mediacorp so proud of it?
Duh... It's the only show available on free-to-air TV from 9.30pm...
and the \"live\" results seems like delayed telecasts...

Well said... ironically the ex-MPs tend to voice their alternative views only after they are... EX...
I tend to imagine that this people, include GY, who quit after losing the election initially meant to reform/transform something within their party but feel powerless to do so coz of the party whip.Daddy

Another casualty... Bye Bye... :celebrate:
冰冻三尺,非一日之寒。 To claim that until this election then they understand the resentment of people cannot be the truth. The zaobao forum day in day out for years has been criticising/condemning the govt and those MIW cannot say they are not aware of it unless everyone of them doesn't read Chinese and also no one interprets for them (those in zaobao forum are mostly the Chinese educated lot and many of them sound intelligent and insightful). They allowed such resentment to accumulate till the extent of explosion then they quit.
It's so easy to just agree and it takes a lot of gut and courage to stand on own to fight for what you truly believe in. The 'reform' needs to be pushed from outside and more difficult from the inside coz it is very difficult to change the 'culture' of any organisation.

Yes, it's true. I was initially neutral until I saw the video on what she commented on health and education cost. From that moment onwards, I join the team who petition against her as I can no longer understand why should we pay $15K to someone who is so ignorant and dare to make such comments easily. If she fail to appreciate such issues if she has been so sheltered in life, how can she understand the issues that are faced by those lower income people???
Well... official media trying to put her in good light yesterday by saying she spent 5 hours on MPS and stayed till 1am. Definitely look like a doctor consultation. They also got residents to sing praises. -

social media in itself is open to all, and not anti anyone.

PAP is free to voice their stand, like anyone else. I would expect them to be a lot more active in this area for the next elections. -

So true, chief, as much as the impression that I formed of NS. And all these, we would not have witnessed if not for social media.

Well said... ironically the ex-MPs tend to voice their alternative views only after they are... EX...
Normal isn't it. When they are wearing the party's hat, they have to support the party's policies and programmes. Whatever that they do not agree with should be trashed out behind closed doors. Likewise for corporate employees right. Cannot possibly go knocking on a customers door and bad mouth your employer and still expect the customer to buy from you.
