Post GE 2011 Discussion

I also hope (though it's fat hope) that Pritam Singh gets to lead the whole of Singapore in reciting the pledge on that NDP nite!

Some observations:
From what I've read, the three PAP ministers had asked to “leave” before the election, but PM only agreed to let them retire after it.verykiasu2010:
I believe the dropping of WKS, RL, MBT, LKY & GCT from the new cabinet line up is a direct consequence of the GE 2011 result, not pre-meditated.
Going into the GE2011, these 5 together with GY and LHH were still hoping to be re-elected to hold office.
It is the post-mortem within PAP that at least for the time being conclude that these 5 must go.
Well, LHL has listened, and the rest of the team are now parroting they will listen more and consult more.....but we don't want to listen anymore. we want to see action now ..... :siam: :siam:

1.\tMM & SM GCT issued a statement to resign fr cabinet last Sat. Dis is not d norm. It’s always d PM or PMO who announces changes to cabinet.
Despite wat PM subsequently said to d press, one can conclude dat d resignations were discussed n agreed upon after GE 2011 n prior to statement being publicly issued.
2.\t WKS, MBT & RL might hv raised retirement proposal with PM prior to GE 2011. If PM had made up his mind then to go along with their retirement, then d voters were shortchanged, not so much in thinking dat they hv a cabinet minister to helm their GRC n represent them in parliament but in so much as dis contradicts PAP’s campaign call for bringing in a 4th generation of leaders. Those three places could hv been given to someone new with potential.
3.\tRL was only one term in MOT n was hyped as one of d Suoer Seven. Why does he want to leave now on his own accord except perhaps for personal reasons.
4.\tOn balance, I am inclined to conclude d removal of WKS, MBT & RL was an outcome of d GE2011 results n d ‘oredi asked for early retirement’ statement was a face saving gesture. They may hv indeed oredi asked for early retirement, but d GE2011 results seal their fate. -
Way2GO:
Usually, they will retire to give way for new blood but maybe during Mid-term rather than immediately after GE.Some observations:
After ‘missing in action’ for more than a week, beleaguered PAP MP for Marine Parade GRC Tin Pei Ling finally emerged from her shell and posted a comment on her Facebook. (or is it ‘Denise He’?)
Sounding not abit affected by the controversies enshrouding her, Ms Tin wrote:
“I think the Cabinet reshuffle is a major move that also shows the resolve our leaders have in bringing Singapore forward – to be ready for the next lap. Some ppl may remain skeptical but I say let’s watch & see. With “new blood” in Cabinet, I anticipate new approaches & exciting developments ahead!”
Her comment expectedly brought a torrent of renewed flaming from netizens who are still upset that she was let off the hook for flouting the election rules flagrantly on ‘Cooling-off’ day.
http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/05/20/tin-pei-ling-expects-more-exciting-developments-ahead-after-major-cabinet-reshuffle/ -
Some other observations:
1.\tIt’s notable dat Min Tharman now looks after d economic n social policies with his dual appointments in Finance n Manpower.
2.\tSMoS Iswaran, now promoted to 2nd Minister for MTI, was reported in d SME Times dd 12th May http://smetimes.tradeindia.com/smetimes/news/top-stories/2011/May/12/singapore-woos-indian-smes-eying-asia-pacific-markets3333245.html, just a few days after GE 2011, to woo Indian SMEs to SG. Min Iswaran is also a Minister in PMO, involves in d Population Secretariat. Anybody has a clear idea wat Population Secretariat does?
3.\tMin Shanmugam is now d FM, probably best choice for dis appointment fr d current crop of PAP prospects.
4.\tWould we be swarmed by a deluge of many things Indian in d next five years? It would be interesting to watch how things pan out.
Would d population mix be altered?
Please refrain from posting any racist remarks coz dis is not d intention of dis post. Thank you.
My national anthem is IMAGINE by John Lennon.

\"I swear allegiance to SG. I pledge to assert all my efforts to serve d citizens of SG with dignity, equality, justice n fairness for all. I promise not to screw them for personal or party’s benefit.
Should I fail to keep my promise, I shall be banish to JB to live out d rest of my days, in isolation.\"
