      Hi millan,

For math, try identifying the topics your son is weaker in and work on those. If he was doing alright in P4 and P5, it's probably a couple of specific topics that's stumping him. Just work on those and he should be alright.

I think he said algebra. the fact that he is doing GEP, they cover higher standard of maths, I also dun know how to do... :frustrated: In the end he has to check w friends or copy the corrections. Teachers commented as all his GEP friends know how to do but he dun, he has the pressure to copy the answers instead of understanding it...

If you can't teach him yourself, then send him to a tutor or someone who can. Better to bring him up to speed during the hols.

        Hi unclelim,

What u mention about the science subject sound v familiar!
When I gave my ds to do science assessment which I bought, he will sure complain that the qn set were not specific enough or the model answer given was wrong .. Recently he also commented about the exam paper ...I told him to think more 'normally' else he will loose out ... Emmmm...

Once I asked my boy to do PSLE Maths paper, he said he only want to do problem sums.. and not the rest..

Sometimes the kids find the first sections too easy and boring, that's why they prefer to tackle problem sums.

My girl is in P5. She has Chinese Tuition once a week for 1.5hours. Her tutor does tongue twisters with her and also drill her on Chinese assessment books. It’s not a nice way to learn a language but it compensates for her lack of reading Chinese books.

I’m an ostrich mum. I dare not read some of the post in the thread about kids going for so many tuition. It makes my heart thump very hard. So far, my girl 乖乖 engage herself with all the lessons in class. Teachers are all very good and she applies all she learns. Keep my finger cross.

I help her in her math by checking that she knows all the strategies and concepts. I usually do these by looking through her homework. For Science, she’s just do some assessment books to learn answering technique.

English, there’s nothing to study. we don’t use any assessment books for English. Perhaps, later when there’s synthesis ,there’ll be rules to memorize. For English, I prefer to engage her in story writing, poetry and watching good shows to learn the language. I think for her age, literary arts is more important than just learning the bolts and nuts of the language.

            1. know why he thought wrong (this part is very important)
            2. understand why teacher's solution is right
            3. any other possible way to solve (to see relations in concepts)

I think one to one tuition is better for this.

Good Luck to you finding a good tutor.
