I would say, or hearsay that for students who are slightly below their standard, they would required to go for enrichment classes..in a way, not stress but more effort require for the students..
What would be the standard ?

I understand a new sch near my place had name the classes by different terms rather than 1A, 1B, etc..
They using class naming such as Innovator, Thinker, Discoverer..

Why is popular/well known school better than normal neighbourhood school ? :?

For one, it is because of the teacher and prinicipal. But then again the prinical will change every 5 years so will the teacher... and if the kids cannot be in the top few class in each level , \" rumours \" had it that chances of the teacher of the rest of class isnt that good even in well know/SAP/popular sch .. :scratchhead:
those rushing for popular/well known schs are mostly with kids already in enrichment/well prepared; hence going into normal neighbourhood schools the kids may be understretched; many people said no sweat, so long kid is good, can get into preferred sch via GEP but they must know that GEPper and advance kids are very different, not all advanced kids are gepper material. at the end of the day, most people prefer a certain popular/well known schs probably because of the CCAs, culture, environment etc. JMHO.

Popular vs Neighbourhood vs GEP Sch…lots of factors to consider as well.

1. Teachers:
Popular Sch - teacher may like to streamline out and brings everyone to standard, focus on hardworking students and will not leave out those struggling in the same boat
Neighbourhood - teachers may be newly graduated…a learning ground and general do not pay too much attention and details
GEP school - tends to focus on students with potential, discipline and self motivated

This is likely to be one aspect…others such as neighbourhood sch and popular school focus may be on CCA aspect to shine and promote school…in comparison to well-known or branded school.

Very headache for parents nowadays…if can give it a shot on a better known school, why risk it?

:faint: think the popular neighbour school will try to focus on the end results too... leaving those struggling behind students to the parents.... headache.... but the most stressful part which my colleague 8yrs son relate is the long hours in school and the \" butt \" must be stuck to it... this is the most stressful part... wonder how to prepare DS for this...he will be :nailbite:

GEPper students are those that can skip the PSLE to go straight into secdonary school... my cousin is one of those but now my auntie regrett as after he goes into GEP school he faced too much stress and so much so that the O'Level results is not ideal....

Hmm…I would say would be to get them enjoy going to school and keep us informed of what is happening. They will be able to sit still either by peer pressure (easy way) or by penalising (hard way)…

Does your DS / DD share with you what they doing in CC? What they learn and any happenings in CC?

DD2 being a girl like to share with me everything that happen at home or at school... before i step in she would tell me who is at home, that she did not watch TV or she have done her homework etc...

DS1 on the other hand, had to probed and probed before he wants to tell me... I totally agreed that as parents we must get them to share what happen at school , or what instruction did the teacher have for them or parents.... and this has to be carry out all the way to sec school especially to boys as we do not know who they are messing ard with.. I would really wish my DS will be mummy boy which DH always label him as :rotflmao: till he completed his NS lor....
