How about telling infront of family members? Is he comfortable?May be you can role play that family memers are his classmates.Let him to tell his own sentenses.simple sentenses.the toy should be his favourite one.Tell him try his best. Its ok to do mistakes.Hi Club 2006. It's been pretty quiet.....
My DS2 is starting his Show and Tell this term ( and this week), and he finds it difficult and he feels stressed. He's normally an outgoing and talkative boy but I think the thought of presenting in front of his class scares him out. The FT kept reminding parents to practise and practise till perfection.
How do you all do it with your children?
My girl had last term. She is shy but love to do show and tell. She did in her kindy a lot. -
Any of your child miss you when they are in the school.
My girl tried to call me at recess time. -

The teacher chose a topic talking about their robotics lesson they all went through, which I thought its really not appropriate for a start. They should be talking about their fave toy, person or family.
In Kindy, he did it too, but I think it was on familiar grounds ( i.e with friends they knew since N1 ). -
Thatβs hard.

my ds2 did his first Show and Tell last term. except for his Volume, he did pretty ok (he managed to hold back his tears and continued his show and tell and improvise despite his classmates accidentally broke his specimen).
no need to practice til perfection. key thing is to build confidence no matter the performance/grammatical error/sentence structure. i try not to correct him so much, but applaud and give him encouragement/praises everytime we do a dry run.. we started by writing out a script. we discussed and jotted down what he needs to present (may or may not follow the guidelines teacher give so long we can give minimal 5-7lines). then we discuss how to form proper sentences. he will then highlight the key words/ideas in each sentence. eg Line1-greet; line2-introduce. we will practice the key ideas presentation first. when he gets the main points covered, then i will correct his sentence one at a time (not too much at each session). he will say to me every/alternate night before he sleeps. he doesnt get his sentence structure totally correct, but so long he can deliver the main ideas confidently, i just let him be. -

such a difficult topic! your boys' sch really high standard.
Thanks Smartmummy. I told him to do his best....

our first topic is favourite toy also.
u have the advantage of your ds1's experience. maybe can get ds1 to give ideas for the script.

DD did her Show and Tell last week. the FT assigned the topic to a family vacation. she was the one who picked the vacation she wanted to tell. we prepared the script according to what she remembered about the trip.
she is a really easygoing kid. friends with everybody in class. but the night before s&t, she was telling us she's afraid and scared to talk in front of class. it was also like that when she did s&t in K2 but she did well. good thing at home she loves presenting shows to us. so we told her it's just like her show at home.
but i also think that a topic that is not so familiar to the child is difficult for show and tell. especially if it's their first.
my DD doesn't miss me while she's at school. (bhuhuhu) maybe also because when it's recess time, it's the time for her to have fun with her friends.
