Ha, I don’t even drill my gals to write their English names, so now also dun know how well they can write their names…but seriously I think writing is more about physical motor skills readiness….of course practice does help, but I think my gals will scream ‘murder’ and cry buckets if they need to practice their Chinese names, especially my younger gal, her last character has 14 strokes….even we have difficulty writing.

hehe...
but to write their name is where the Chinese character starts.. practise by writing their name first..

my DD can write her name when abt 3 plus, she started with writing letters then i always ask her how to spell ur name, then once she knows her name’s spelling, she can write it out. so start with letters first, then it’s easier to write words, as they put the letters together.
if i ask my DD how to write apple, she wont know, she can only write "A" then she will draw an apple for it. but if i help her, by saying A.P.P.L.E, she can write it out. -
Yup… for English… need to know how to write A - Z first…
Then teach them how to spell the word… and then write it down… to practise… -
