my son is now 2yrs 5mths, still not speaking, always crying & screaming for whatever he wants, enough of guessing & worrying, we brought him to kkh for checkup last week.

Endup he was dignosed with speech-language delay. he was able to tell the doc apple when she asked him what is that on a board. but only able to identify apple, the rest no.
we parents were told to attend a 1st session 3hr workshop at HPB in 2mths time, den session 2 will be 5-6mths later to attend with my son.
hopefully after the session, we can know how teach him to communicate better.

before the session starts in 2 mths time, go to NLB to try to pick up related books to read. then you can ask questions during the workshop to maximise the time spent there. 🙂
        all the best.

            hihihi...
sorry, i am not able to recommend any speech-related books. i usually go to the Parenting section to browse through before selecting the books as i only read selected chapters in the books that i borrowed, so i did not take note of the title of the book (and for my case, i looked for ADHD-related books prior to my consultation).

Hi, would like to hear some comments. If my son is delayed in speech, would sending him to enrichment lessons helps, or working with speech therapist will be better? Speech therapist charge me at $150 per hr, therefore, it will cost $600 per mth :moneyflies:

U can try kkh thru polyclinic route. Now paying about $42 per hr.

Enrichment Is good for his social skills and if his case is mild and simply needs more exposure to language. Ultimately will still need speech therapy if there is articulation issues, limited vocab etc. How old is he now?

                  Hi mashy,

i did go thr polyclinic route in nov 2010 when he was 2.6 yrs old, n started ST when he was 2.9 yrs old, on mar 2011 at nuh cdu. went for around 12 times fm mar to dec 2011, as the therapist slots was always full. progress was very slow. therefore, was recommend to go to epic sch. since son was going to epic in jan 2012 at 3.6 yrs old, the st at nuh was stopped as this is their policy. went to epic in jan2012, do not like their setting as the class is based on functioning lvl. with kids fm ADHD, austims..... hyper active.. n the ST only come in twice a week for 30 mins for the whole group. my boy is only attending 3 days per week for 2hrs, therefore the st will only come in for 1 day for 30mins for whole group. felt uncomfortable with epic as i feel that the class is not suitable for my boy who is only delayed speech. now, cannot go back to nuh as this is their policy, do not like epic settings. therefore, looking for freelance ST to help him.. but the cost is too high... haiz

It’s odd to send him to epic if he’s not autistic. Maybe u should go kkh instead. I was referred to the dr in the general clinic first, then I requested to see the speech therapist becoz of poor articulation. So I didn’t go to child dev at all. Went straight to speech therapy. For u to see any significant progress, u need to practise everyday with him. ST can only see u so infreqly, the main ‘therapist’ is actually u. I was never referred to go EPIC Prog until he saw the child dev end of last yr. By then it’s too late to attend EPIC.

Ds3 was doing speech therapy at nuh. Refer to epic as the doc felt that epic can help him more. My case is under nuh, can i still go to kk? Kk waiting period is at least 6 months, therefore do not felt like wasting any more time
