• RE: Homeschooling your child?

      Hi,

My Ds3 is GDD and is 6 years old this year, currently attending k2 mainstream.

I am thinking of homeschooling him in p1 as he is delayed in speech, language and even motor skills. The delay for all is estimated to be around a year.

The PD, speech therapist and occupational therapist recommend that he repeat his k2 to catch up with the demands in p1.

I would like to know how to we submit to moe for homeschooling?

      Thanks

      Hi parents,

Any parents have kids that are in p2 this year?

The eng speaking test is on mon, 28 apr, but until now, my DS2 do not have anything from the teachers. Do they have any materials to bring home to memorize? Or any parents have any ideas how the speaking test will be tested on?

      Thanks.

My question, when is the deadline to do the deferment for P1? Can I do it in oct or nov 2014?

How much is the psychologist test? Is it a compulsory to do the psychologist test to get the deferment?

      Thanks

To do deferment, please ensure you have

1)Psychologist report (recommend for deferment) - think compulsory. KKH is cheaper but need to wait for an appointment. Maybe less than SGD500? Pte think can go around SGD1.5k.
      2) Send the psychologist report to MOE
      3) A letter stating a confirmed place in K2 for next year for the deferred child. Can be exiting child care/kindergarden or new child care/kindergarden.

Good to do the psychologist report around Aug/Sep time. You can register for the kid in P1 first and arrange to withdraw if decides to defer the child.

      Thanks for the information 🙂

    • RE: P1 Deferment

My DS3 is born in 2008 And need to register him in 2014 for his P1 in 2015. As he is under the siblings’ phase, he will register him in mar 2014.

DS3 has GDD and has been undergoing private Speech therapies and occupational therapies for the past 2 years.

His Doc in JMC recommends that I register him in mar 2014 and then nearer to end of 2014, then decide if he is suitable to enter P1 as he may be more ready for P1 at the end of the year compare to mar 2014 as he has delay of around 1 year.

My question, when is the deadline to do the deferment for P1? Can I do it in oct or nov 2014?

How much is the psychologist test? Is it a compulsory to do the psychologist test to get the deferment?

I am not able to get resale hdb under my name as the criteria to buy a hdb for married couple is to form a family which need to include my husband's name.

      How about renting?

At least you will have your personal space.

We did thought of renting. But it is not a short term solution. It may be a 10yr or 20 yrs stay and the amt cost is estimate to be at least 30k per yr, 300k for 10 yrs. not a small amount.

Hubby talk to them, but they are like kids. After talking to them, they will stop that particular action for a while, then after that, redo again. Testing my limits. Eg, for the past few months, when dengue fever is on the high, my mil likes to accumulate water at the base of the flower pots and pour a lot of water for those water plant til it overflow. found larvas in the pots and base of the pots. Hubby talk to her, and I remove the base, to let the water flow into the sink. Pour away the water in the pots. It work for 2 days. Later, she went and find another base and put it below the pots again. And pour water till it overflow again. I have to go around checking everyday to make sure that there is no water at the base, remove the base, check any larvae in the water..... Every time, I remove the base and pour the water away, she will do it again. It is a cycle. 🤷 this is just one of the example.
And btw, my PIL are extremely healthy. So what can I do?

I think if NEA comes n finds out, even fine her,she oso won't change her way.

my mil likes everything to be neat. not easy to get along wf her.She throws away things without ur knowledge. we used to stay near to each other, now we shifted to a remote place where she doesn't know how to come. :xedfingers:

Worst than my kids. At least, my kids, I can say, punish.... With in laws, cannot say, cannot punish.....

      KSmom8,

I am a fierce mother too. I did told my boys and did punished them in front of my in laws, but I guess my in laws are too stubborn and they still pretend not to see and hear, so the same old things happen again. My in laws are like kids, testing my limits again and again. That's why, it is a sad thing, I do not like to stay at home facing them. During school days, I have not choice as the kids have to go home to do homework. But weekends, or public holidays, if I can Siam, I will Siam n go out go.

      hi sahm chew,
:grphug: I can fully understand ur situation. Hv u tried to get ur hb to talk to them?

many yrs ago,I stayed with my inlaws fr a mth, oredi cannot tahan. She basically wanna interfere everything n twisted my words.I quietly took care my baby, did hsework n she kept disturbing me....non stop....when I breastfed my baby, she banged into my room, put up my shirt, pressed my breast, she said she wanna make sure I didn't suffocate the baby. :stupid:

I was very mad, took my baby n went bk to mother home. Then she complained to my hb that I disrespect her. :stompfeet:

after almost 10yrs of endurance, I told my hb,that's it...I couldn't keep i giving way to someone who does not respect me. cannot continue to give u face or else I go insane.

so I could understand ur feelings when u mentioned they keep testing ur limits.

Now, I try to close both ears and both eyes, as I know that no solution is in sight. But sometimes, my poor kids have to get my rant as I could not rant to my in laws even they are in the wrong.

Be strong, my dear, my advise to you as well as to myself.

      hi SAHM chew,
:grphug: :hugs: I can understand how u feel.. hang in there(I am oso telling myself).

agree that there is no way we could change inlaws. Rationalizing with them is a waste of time n make it worse if put hb in difficult position. 🤷 So at the end, we r still the ones who bite our teeth n endure...

is there a way if u could keep all iphone or ipad at a place whereby ur inlaws unaware of?

I don't stay wf my inlaws oredi hv so much probs. Whenever my kids meet up my MIL, she'll try to find out a lot of things abt us. Children r innocent n they sometx do not know the whole pic, thus give wrong or misleading info to her. At the end,she kept calling my hb to question this or that. it was very irritating...coz my hb had to keep explaining n convincing her on the truth.

to the extend that we've to be VERY careful when we talk to the kids.we couldn't even joke wf kids anymore. :nailbite:

She oso purposely calls my hb during his office hour coz she knows I won't be ard wf him n she could badmouth on me. So enough is enough, :nunchuk: I told my hb that I've had enough. Thus, no more visitation, no more phone call.It sound a bit cruel but we've no choice. Imagine,my hb has to spend whole lots of times during office hour, to clarify n explain to her :stompfeet:

it is difficult to foster rules to kids, don't talk abt elderly.

Actually, I kinda envious you, as you do not stay with your in laws. I always told my hubby that if we do not stay together with my in laws, things should get better. 🤷 too bad....

My heart goes out to you as I am not on good term with my in laws too. I have lot of grievance too and as I am a sahm, I have certain rules that my kids need to abide. But since I am staying with my in laws, my in laws will go against my rules when I am not around. Eg, I need to fetch my DS3 everyday and will leave the house for around 30mins, or 2 hrs if i need to buy dinner, n my in laws will do things behind my back. Eg, exam week now, I forbids my kids to play with ipad. When I am not around, my in laws will pass the iPhone to my kids for them to play. N then pass the phone to them so that they can play when I am doing my things. I am so mad and now, I cannot leave the house in peace as I know that my in laws will use that time to go against my rules.
      .

SAHM Chew, I empathize with your situation.

I used to have the same problem....but with my mum. She used to do that when we were staying with her for a period of time....sometimes, in my presence and in spite of my protests. My mum can really spoil her grandchildren.....like most grandparents.

So I told DS if he disobey me and listen to grandma in spite of my instruction, I will punish him. He did and I punished him in front of my mum. My mum \"heart pain\" to see DS punished and DS did not want punishment again, so did not happen again.

I can be a fierce mom .... And daughter.
Hi SAHM Chew

My friend was also in a similar \"fix\" as you guys. Names stuck in properties with their respective parents. In the end, they \"sacrificed\" the co-ownership for sanity. It's up to you and your DH whether you can bear to give up his share in the house if you really want to buy a flat on your own. Ultimately, he'll still get a share later on...

Cherry gal, in order to withdraw hb share from the house, estimated of $2xxk (amt paid from cpf. this is not the valuation of the hse) had to be pay back to cpf. The co owners are not able to pay back, means me and hubby have to top up the amt. and I am not that optimist that we will get a share later. I do not need a share of the house, but at least get back what we had pay fm cpf. But that condition is not able to fulfill too.

complicated..when comes to ownership or co ownership for property.

Is it possible if u could get ur own hse under ur own name? while getting ur hb to fork out $$ fr this hse?

my situation is slightly differ than urs.inlaws own all the properties, none of those has hb or his sibling name. hb helps to manage their properties.complication arises when they've conflict of interests.MIL is uneducated yet likes to take control n mess up things.we've no choice but to comply work ard her ways coz she owns the hses. Also not easy to trf ownship to him coz stamp duty, lawyer fees, etc, cost a bomb.so at the end, gave up the idea.

we face lots of frustrations dealing wf MIL. she doesn't understand the complication when comes to contractual agreement,reno,rental,etc....it is difficult to explain to her coz she is illiterate.
