2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

musette:
My relatives were just asking me over the weekend whether I'll be taking leave next month for my dd's PSLE. They said that many of their colleagues (even fathers) with PSLE kids this year have applied leave, with one taking 3 months unpaid leave. Seems like it's becoming a norm for working parents to do that. But like what verykiasu mentioned, it's nothing new. Just that it's becoming more widespread and common as parents up the ante for PSLE preparation.
Hi, does anyone know of parents who quit their jobs or took a leave of absence just so they can help their child with PSLE preparations? Please email me at .
Although I've no intention of taking leave to help my dd, hearing this kind of stressed me out.
No need to stress out. Every kid works differently. For some kids, they feel pressurise when parents are around. Consistency is the key. I always take half day leave during exam periods, just to give my DS more resting time. He usually goes to student care after school. So during exam period, I'll bring him home so he can rest, relax & study. My role is to cook his favourite dishes for him.

Yup, me too. I usually only take half-day leave during exam periods, so that I can go pick dd from school and she doesn't need to take the school bus home. Then she has more time to rest and do some last minute studying. No need to stress out. Every kid works differently. For some kids, they feel pressurise when parents are around. I did ask hubby to apply leave...not to breathe down son's neck but to attend to my younger one so that I can accompany him while he studies.
Women can be kancheong but I think we can do a better job motivating kids
The stakes may have gone up for PSLE but stressing the kids now may have adverse effect. We want our kids to walk into the exam hall with confidence since we have all done what we can. Burning the candle both ends will lead to disaster. -
DS prelim result is out for Math and Science paper very bordline marks like low 60 and 70 for both subjects respectively. From his body language knowing that he lost confident and so do I.
I am lost  as I want to control my evil words :stompfeet: but it so hard to control.
Now, I don't know how to sit with him for his PSLE battle. :stupid: -

Prelim papers are intentionally set so difficult. I am prepared for that craziness next week...but I have reminded my son to look at the BIG picture but that doesn't mean he can bochap about prelims either.I am lost  as I want to control my evil words :stompfeet: but it so hard to control.

It's easy for us to lose steam at this time and I hope I don't.
Forget about the prelim results. Look forward. We all need each other's motivation now. -
DD is having prelims these 2 days. Yesterday was English, today is maths. Donβt understand why the school sets prelims 2 days before the PSLE oral!

janet_lee88 is right. Forget about the results. Went thru the paper & see what went wrong. Learn from mistakes & practise on weaker topics. At least, he had his prelim early. Still have 1.5mth to revise. My DS prelim will only start next week.

Same here. & this is prelim #2. DS completed prelim #1 during 2nd-3rd week of July.
But whatever it is, no point complaining, all schools will have their own reason to do things. Just have faith that school knows what they are doing & give our kids the support they need. Told DS, as long as you have done your part, whatever exams is just a revision......try your best & learn from mistakes. -

Have a time-out. Calm yourself down and prepare yourself how you want to talk to your ds. We won't want to say anything that we regret later and cruel words said in a fit of anger cut them deep. The last thing we want is to see our kids totally give up on themselves.DS prelim result is out for Math and Science paper very bordline marks like low 60 and 70 for both subjects respectively. Do what you can control now , that is, go through section by section which area he is still weak in. For Maths, if it is geometry/ circles/ speed, then work on more questions relating to that topic. For Science, is it section A or B that he is losing marks. Work on that section. If it is purely losing marks due to not being careful, then try to emphasis to him this ,\" EVERY mark counts in any exam including PSLE.\"
What we are teaching our kids is not just skills on how to pass PSLE, but life skills on how to deal with setbacks when they encounter later in their lives. Yes, setback now ... No problem, I allow myself to wallow for a day or two then I shall pick myself up and move on to make tomorrow counts. Build that resilience in them. Remember the past does not equate to the future.
All the best to you and your ds ! :rahrah:
