said = past tense

I thought it should be 1) had been donated. As the singaporeans donated the money first then the report came out..my kid said he had been taught this before in tuition as a timeline question[/quote]
DS was pondering between \"had been\" and \"was being\".... at the end he decided it should be \"had been\"...

the words in red (sent to the flood victims) considered addn info, need not consider.

so : The report said that the huge sum of money was being donated mostly by Singaporeans.

not : The report said that the huge sum of money had been donated mostly by Singaporeans.

if u want to use \"had been\", then the sentence should be :
The report said that the huge sum of money that had been donated was mostly by Singaporeans.
