Even if we can move on, my DS will forever have to live in humiliation in the eyes of some. ILs are very branded school people!
Your son may just top his secondary school and prove them wrong. -

Wow! Tough on you! Ur mil really idiotic to judge you base on ur dd's rpt card.Hi weather bee, bedok green is not bad. My niece was from there 4 years ago, graduated o levels with good grades. Her cop that time was about 212, also had s shock. She said the teachers there are dedicated.
Psle 2012, i know how you feel. I've been teaching dd all these years , and towards p5/6, i practically swallowed the whole sci guide to help her. I felt like a failure when she was disappointed she didn't achieve the score she wanted. Also mil is watching if I being a sahm, have been teaching her well. Dd's results seem to be my report card too.
I guess, it'll take a while for our hearts to be at peace, to accept this. And also after the posting results, we 'll be more settled and move on. -

Even if it's branded school, they also hoping for top 10% to brag. Anyway, for them even last in a branded school is still better than neighbourhood brand. Branded means branded!!fifiyeo:

When DH is d eldest ,DS is d first grandson n I stopped work to be a SAHM , MIL always hovered n compared d results. I am v lucky my 2 DS did not failed me. Don't let her judgement affect yr confidence. As long as u n yr DD have done d best n yr DH is supportive of u then don't worry abt her judgement n move on . Jia you . -

But during our gal's time, we dont need that cert for sec1 reporting, right? Otherwise, i would have collected it... -
read some ‘interesting’ advice on not taking 3rd lang if it does not add ‘value’ to the grades, etc.
this is typical singaporean - if something is of no concrete value, then shun it. (something similar to if old aged parents cannot add ‘value’ to a family, then don’t stay with them.)
few can look into the areas of taking a 3rd lang broadens one’s horizon tremendously, be it the grade is A or B or C.
remember my niece took HCL and third lang at the same time, refusing to drop third lang even her principal asked her to do so. she knows she is unlikely to get an A for O level but she benefits a lot from the knowledge (to be able to read storybooks in another language without translation is such a joy). She managed a B3 at the end but that never affects her JC and subsequent uni choice in anyway.
our education generally fails us tremendously in this way, that we keep looking at the final product instead of the process.
If your child expresses interest, let him take it (cos can drop anytime). If no interest, then forget it. Personally I feel should not ‘drill’ this kind of ‘calculations’ into the minds of a 12 years old and have to teach them to look at things in broader perspective (process is always more important than product when one comes out to work eventually. Those who only know how to focus on product will lose out over the long term and so not wise to teach kids to think like this at this young age).
