2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
-
Hi I am new here. I found all the tips very useful, especially from psle2011mum. Thank you so much for all your efforts and the sharing. For English comprehension (OE), anyone has recommendations on a good book for practice for P6 PSLE? My DD is taking PSLE this year. Thanks!

My parents are also busy helping me especially this year...we will go over for meals and then back home to get revision done/tuition. It's really like a whole village getting my son thru psle :faint:
WOW!!!Your're very blessed :rahrah:
That is why it takes a village to educate a child :-).alng:
I feel that SUPPLEMENTARY lessons should not be teaching from syllabus but doing worksheets prepared by HODs/P6 teachers. Shouldn't this be the case ? :scratchhead:
Teachers are NOT teaching students how to answer questions for comprehension OE or cloze for eg...most schools just throw the worksheets to the kids. The exam papers of some schools are so 'impressive' with difficult compre passages beyond P6 standard. But are the kids taught how to handle ? No, the exam papers is to show other parents that the school standard is high. PERIOD. -

I wish my son's school is this efficient :stompfeet: son seems to be very tired after school (only the first week)...even after a hot shower and lunch. If need be, I really need to consider taking him out of suppl.Great! The threads have finally merged;)

DS school has come back with timetable for 3 days supplementary classes starting next week. I’ve only allowed him to stay for 2 days and will monitor if the other 2days are worth his time or not. If he still comes home with homework after supplementary classes, it’ll be too crazy.
The blessing I’ve had this new year is that even though DS didnt’ get into the top 2 classes because of bad results in SA2 last year, his current class is only a size of 26 and they assigned a very experienced teacher. Meanwhile the top 2 classes are bursting at the seams with more than 40+ kids. I’m actually very happy about that situation coz DS told me his previous class was very distracting. At least the school is putting in appropriate resources to where it’s most needed.
Meanwhile, each day, I’m monitoring DS’s daily homework and reinforcing concepts where needed. I realized that I didn’t do that enough last year so when I discovered his gaps in understanding last year, it was too late. Hopefully, I can keep up this stamina.
For me sleep and exercise are important priorities. So I aim to ensure that DS gets his daily 45mins of playtime in the park or playground each day and gets to bed by 9am. Without proper sleep and exercise, the brain cannot function properly. I’m also starting meditation practices with the kids so that kids learn to stay calm during stressful times. It helps me calm down too. Just tried out last 2 nites and kids have given me feedback that they sleep well after that. Better to start these good practices now when things are only at the beginning of term. -

Wow, thats fast. My DS is not in schol these few days. Got P6 Camp.
And yes, my DS school is very efficient, they will normally list down the key activities in each term (term calendar) and issue out during the first few days of each term. School is going to have a prep talk for all P6 parents really soon...
