Thanks to pslemum, I started tearing various pictures from various sources and gathered them into similar topics to file them. DS2 saw me doing that and wondered what in the world was I doing destroying the pages and I told him poor mum has to work hard for him..( sent off DS1 to sec 1 last year and now have to work hard all over again for son 2 this year)

Anyway while trying to get son to read and learn each paper page to page, I realised there are many overlaps and may end up confusing a kid whose Chinese is not great. To those who are teaching your kid oral Chinese, I suggests circling unique sections of each picture. If there are 2 or more pictures with similar section eg man climbing over a divider on the road, just pick one in which describes it best in the vocab which your kid can grasp without getting exasperated. Similarly do the same for conclusions. As you practise with your kid, if you come across a picture with a similar section you have made him learn from another picture, make him express out loud in the way he had learned earlier from somewhere else to reinforce

An advice from experience( last 2 weeks). Don't be too ambitious and anxious to cover too much. It's quality rather than quantity. For a kid he will gain confidence if he finds that,\" Hey! I am progressing!\" Presently, I am trying to squeeze in 20min each night to do this with my kid( after much haggling). With CCA three times a week and tuition, it is difficult to sqeeze in time to do own tutoring with him.

Anyway, I have told myself not to panic, not to get anxious, not to go into Brownian motion but plan and just do what I think I should do. Always assess my kid's response. I want to push him hard enough without compromising our relationship. Quarrel, of course we do! Argue? Yah , to the point once, my hubby stood aside laughing thinking it was funny while we glared at each other hyperventilating but pepper it with some laughter
and loving, I think we can survive ๐Ÿ’‹

Checked with DS on this friction pen, in fact his school has banned them from using this pen for exams. Reasons being
          1. Disappear under heat
          2. Prone to cheating (students may correct the answers when the test papers come back for their checking without any visible trace of being corrected) ๐Ÿ˜“
According to my teacher(Note: PSLE 2011 student) she said no using of friction pens in PSLE coz the papers stacked tightly and the ink will fade off.

            Hi Parents,

Now I know why friends advise me to hold back getting too many assessment books for P6...time is really tight and LITTLE :nailbite:
Just 1 week into school and I'm facing an uphill task trying to squeeze in time to do some revision with him...best part is suppl lessons haven't started yet. His tutors have also been nice to hold back giving too much hw.

To all parents here who are giving useful tips, I feel so blessed to have found this trail of useful notes, please keep them coming and I greatly appreciate all the advices! Realised so important to keep encouraging one another here. To some of you who are struggling with changing your children's attitude, you really must have a lot of patience and encouragement. I used to have problems with my DD but constant engagement with her on the importance of the PSLE finally made her realise that she has to do something about her attitude and efforts. So parents don't give up, be persistent and you will succeed. All the best for PSLE this year!

              I feel the same way.
The feeling of entering P6 is so different from others...the anxiety and fear of walking into the unknown ahead is nail-biting and I've been hyperventilating quite a bit. Son's teachers are TOUGH, so I have to soften my stance with him...can't possibly be a 2-side pull or he will break down. Shouldn't the teachers have more 'Adam Khoo mentality' :scratchhead:

โ€˜Adam Khooโ€™ to me means motivational talk to boost morale.

                    Hi fellow comrades,

Any suggestions on how to improve Chinese? I think due to poor foundation, my DD is issues recognising the chinese characters and their meanings. Stress!

                    Hi. This may help:
For Comprehension in Chinese, first you have to read the passage, then read the questions.

Following that, you sort out that which one requires personal opinions and which ones don't.

Those that don't require personal opinions can be directly copied off the passage. Those who cannot, you have to let your DD comprehend themselves.

But this way is effective for me ๐Ÿ˜“

yup thats what my ds school teacher told me but not for higher chinese

Yes, for HCL, you canโ€™t simply copy from the comprehension passage.

                        Hi Mummies,

My son told me about some EL compo test about Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee celebration :faint: Teacher promised to give the class 5 days no homework during CNY weekend on the condition they work very hard these 2 weeks...journals, compo tests, spelling tests (must get at least 90% or else no recess). From the look of it, I can adopt hands-off approach.
