      Got the email reply from the publisher already.

      Q1. The correct answer is white cylinder, so it is a printing error. They will change it on the next print.
      Q2. The answer is Ken, not Ravi.
      Conclusion, the teacher is not paying attention to what she is teaching. She should never assume that the questions/answers provided by the publisher must be 100% right.
      Like that also can?
      So the class of 40 all got wrong?
      Has the teacher corrected her mistakes?

        To DaddyD question, I think would be no it must be, the teacher was responsible to correct it, right?

            Some of the better school, yes but some no. So I can't give you the actual answer!

              It's not part of the syllabus according to MOE and it's not a topic in the textbook (it is a topic in P2).

              However, some schools want to give the kids a headstart to early understanding of model representations, so they do start teaching.

              My personal take: Don't expect them to draw a model, but you can provide a model when going through problem sums with them to expose them to models.
              Use different colours and explain to them that it simply represents a number.

                  It's alright for them to draw a simple model to help visualize, but no marks will be awarded. They will still need to write their number sentence clearly.

                  I've attached a sample of a P3 question which I used different colours to help differentiate. You can do something similar. Your kiddo will definitely love getting to use colours! 🙂

                        Hi! Some of us use counting method, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 so answer 8 like that. Or using something like drawing like below
