Sam and Daniel had 1670 marbles altogether. After Sam had given 96 marbles to Daniel, San had four times as many marbles as Daniel.

      (a) How many marbles did Daniel have at first?
      (b) How many marbles did Sam have in the end?

Can anyone help with this question? :thankyou:

        (a) 1670/5=334

Daniel has 334 marbles after Sam gave him 96 marbles.

        Hence, 334-96=238

Daniel have 238 marbles at first.

        (b) Since Sam have 4 times the marbles Daniel have at the end,

        334*4=1336

Sam have 1336 marbles at the end.

        I hope this is correct:D

Yup, u r correct. The clue comes from San had four times as many marbles as Daniel. Use model drawing to solve this problem sum.

                  Thanks.

u denotes the number of dolls left AFTER Fiona had given 10 away.

So before Fiona gave them away, she had (u+10) dolls.

                        a) the distance he jogged was = 3/8 + 1/2 =3/8 + 4/8 = 7/8

                        b) the total distance jim covered was = 3/8 + 7/8 = 10/8 = 1 1/4
