She was selected for GEP but i decided against for it. But this year the school officers overturn our decision and she started her GEP class only this month.

Actually I don't see any difference between GEP and mainstream, afterall all sit for the same PSLE papers. I feel that GEPers are more busy with all the extra curriculum which i don't really see any advantage and only reduce the time for other non-academics activities. That is my opinion only.
oh..so her current sch is a GEP centre ah? so officers still can last minute pull her in.
good exposure for her. ๐Ÿ™‚ if it is meant to be. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry for off topic, but I think all benefit here. If she didn't join GEP she would bore. That's the reason for the GEP curriculum. I know a boy he can do p3 in P1. Now he is in GEP.
Now u no need to worry what to teach. She will be very busy with her projects or still she have time?

If she's my kid, I would teach her P5 and P6 Maths, and then P5 and P6 Science, and then P5 and P6 English this year. And then Secondary school work. I'll take the kid out of GEP and in 4 years, she should be in the uni. She'll be 5 yeas ahead of her peers. ๐Ÿ˜‰ That's just me, though.

            hi 2ppaamm,

Maths - because that's my favourite subject, and also my husband's and also all my kids'. And also because laughing cat's dd seem to have interest. Science and English does not really matter. English - I doubt our local syllabus anyway, so I have my own system. Science - I don't really have a clue what is happening locally, I find what they do 'cute' but meaningless, including what's happening in GEP and those do-at-home-aka-parents-do projects (very cute) and those parents-do-children-get credit star programs... I don't like homework from my children's school at 40+, also don't like to do primary science, I'm not in Primary 30+, so I just provide lots of books and encyclopedia, subscribe to magazines. The kids read a whole lot and research themselves, they accelerate themselves without my effort. Once they love Science, they will do well. (My kids have some PSLE A* for science for me to boast about hehe...:)). So I live by that for Science, level-less learning. So in that case, how do you teach at which level? There's no level :? You can cover a whole term's work in a day if there is interest. (e.g. my p3 did planets, continents, seas and oceans in one day because he was so interested)

So there's no particular order. Just that Singapore Primary Maths is the only one worth looking at (even so, I also have different thoughts about the way it is executed in our schools), and the rest of the primary subjects are quite pathetic and narrow :skeptical: . For my kids, I would skip right through them and do something more meaningful like research and exposure. But that's just me again.

Hehe.... So sorry for not replying earlier as i was so busy in thoughts and frustrated with the possibility of new P1 registration scheme. When will the new change be......i wouldn't know and that frustrates me. Anyway.....back to your earlier topics.......

I had a a word with my niece (she stayed overnight at my place) and we had a really serious talk. She wants me to teach her P5 maths and i gave her my word but i may possibly face unnecessary contention from her teacher.....but then so what ๐Ÿคท

As for english.......we did a mock PSLE exam paper tonight and i am getting another teacher to mark her compre and compo and let's see from there what is her level. I have never taught her English as she reads alots and since she always score between 94-97, i tend to relax relax in that area especially on her. As for science, I didn't really \"teach\" but only guide her along and she self study on her own and still she can score between 90-94. We are pretty much like that on that time-table. Perhaps i can see what i can do to accelerate her on that.

We agreed to see her overall well being at GEP for this year since this is the ist year of GEP. If she is still bored, i might as well acelerate her then.

It is easy for now since i am coaching all 3 gals (P6,P5,P4) with almost the same ability.

Thanks 2ppaamm on your opinion. I do welcome any form of opinion as i am thinking of taking the lazy way out to coach 3 gals (even though they are of different age) altogether with the same materials. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had a look at the Must know Problem sums P3 book and found that a few of the model shown were incorrect. This is not the 1st time I spotted mistakes in this particular book.

                        Hi ladies,

The step by step math (casco) hubby bought is way too diff for daughter. There are 3 levelsโ€ฆitโ€™s the challenging level which my daughter cannot manage. I feel that Shaping Math is a good workbook. Will prob get it for P3. At least the higher order questions wonโ€™t frighten her.
