hi ecyh75

Winth had posted earlier that the doctor she went to was Dr Hinly Lau of LQ Dental at Novena Medical Centre (Square 2).

I am gonna get DS to pay Dr Lau a visit soon. Luckily I saw winth's post from your post. Also thought I should wait till DS was older to correct his jaw issue but after reading this, better do it asap to avoid surgery. Blessing in disguise that you included winth's quote in your post.

      Thanks!

      Hi Cherrygal/Winth

how were your treatment with Dr Lau? Can share with me?

My gal is also a confirmed brace case..I was seeing Dr Geraldine at Paragon (Smilework) and she recommended upper braces for her in Oct this year after end of of her P4 SA2. Her charges quoted was $2500 (for upper braces) excluding x-ray, extraction etc. I am wondering if this is the norm charge range, or are there cheaper option? Also, shd I seek 2nd opinion and see if I can delay the treatment later (she said I can choose to delay treatment 2 yrs later after her PSLE, but that might mean she would have to do teeth extraction or do both upper and lower jaw depending on the growth of her teeth and jaw.

The grandparents at home do not approve the braces as they think it is just cosmestic surgery and not justifiable. They think it is not a matter of life and death issue, so no need to spend $$, time and the agony (for my gal) over it. But I think every parent jus wanna to have their child to be as perfect as possible..and I think the distorted teeth are making her difficult to brush and keep them clean..
Anyone can recommend a good orthodontic?

Btw, can any dentist do brace or must go for orthodentic?
My 12yo dd has uneven teeth.

My dd, 13 years old, did her braces under an orthodontist, Dr Tan of Embrace Dental, early this year. Personally, I found him to be very professional and reasonably priced. ๐Ÿ˜„ Have to book appointments in advance as his business is very good.

A typical dentist may not do braces. I think it is better to go to orthodontists as they specialise in braces. They are better equipped and definitely more experienced.

        Thanks apricot!
Dr. Tan kok Liang in international building right? I'll call them for more info.
I planned to do it after psle.
Yes, its him. Btw, you can claim first hour free carpark at International building if you have a payment receipt from the dental clinic. ๐Ÿ˜„

dear all, my son now 3yrs old, doesnโ€™t like to brush teeth. previously when i saw his teeth are yellowish, i clean with a damp cloth but some stains are still there.

How to get him to brush teeth? everyday when we reached home, he knows he has to wash his hands & legs, at the same time i tried to brush teeth for him but he refused to open his mouth. Im so worried about him having tooth decay.

              Please advise.Thanks.

Maybe u can try getting him his favourite flavour toothpaste, something he likes? But remind him not to swallow.

Or u might want what this website suggests:

I bought a nice toothbrush with some cartoon character on it and she wanted to brush by herself. I would take over once sheโ€™s done "licking" the toothpaste. hahaha

You can also let him play this online game on sesamestreet.com where Elmo gets the kid to help him brush his teeth. My gal liked that and would tell me she wants to brush like Elmo.

I also let her brush while watching her fave TV shows. You donโ€™t have to brush in the bathroom all the time.

                        J tea:
Hi Apricot, i saw the previous post that you posted.. Im currently jstarting to do my braces at the clinic that you mentioned. If i run out of dental wax, can i get more from their clinic? Or do they sell it?

Because i was quite shock to hear from the doctor that 1 box of dental wax can last me until I finish the treatment.

But my braces are cutting my cheeks very badly and I need to use a lot of wax.

Can you please share with me your experience at their clinic?
Hi J Tea, I have replied your question which u have posted under 'Dental Braces' .

My dd only use wax initially for a few days and after that she didn't have to use it as she got used to e braces. I also thought that it would not be enough as my dd has low threshold of pain but we still have some wax left. I was also worried that she was going to lose weight as she couldn't eat well initially but a week later, she was already eating normally. ๐Ÿ˜„

If you need more wax, you can always get it from the clinic. It is normal to feel discomfort and pain initially but it should go away once you get used to e braces. If u still feel that it is too painful after several days, you might want to check with the clinic if they could do something.

So far, my experience with the clinic has been pleasant. They have always been very polite to my many queries. There were times when my dd felt unusual pain on gum/tooth, we would just call and make appointment with the clinic to check and Dr Tan will always see us without extra charge. Sigh..... Sometimes, false alarm from my dd, so we just cancel appointment last minute but they never complain.
