Son had bone graft op done 2 years ago…to fill in the missing upper right jaw bcos of his cleft condition. Teeth couldn’t erupt bcos there was no gum to grow through then. Teeth were stuck above (from the x-ray). Bcos of PSLE, this whole thing is on KIV until now. I postponed the orthodontist appt till end Oct so that he can play and enjoy.

His milk teeth are very much still intact…so far only 3 or 4 were removed.
Fixing braces is painful…never forget that pain. Braces was not for beauty sake, but his condition said so.

Sorry :offtopic: too  but yes, can wear braces once all of your DC's adult teeth have erupted.

In fact, that was my No.1 thing to do for DD post PSLE. She got 4 teeth extracted a few days after final paper, followed by the fixing of braces. In fact, her front teeth have started to straighten out 😄

She dare to do it? Wanted to let my daughter do it but she's afraid of the pain.

For DD, vanity triumphs over fear of pain. She's been feeling really self-conscious about her teeth and couldn't wait to get them straightened. DD was very matter-of-fact about it. In fact, I was more apprehensive (and traumatized by the teeth extraction) about the whole process than she was...

I used to think this, because I did braces in the 70s to 80s in my teenage days. But my girls (13 and 15yo) have worn braces for the past 6 mths, and they don't suffer half as much as I did. The explanation I got from the orthodontist and reading up is that modern materials used have a little elasticity compared to the 'old days', and so the pain is less. My girls were eating fairly normally even after each tightening except that they avoided hard things which they needed to bite with front teeth. In contrast, I recall eating mainly soup and porridge for about 2 days after each adjustment when I did braces, and even accidentally touching my teeth caused agony!

I can understand fully cos I put braces in early 80s too 🙂
DS just put on his braces yesterday morning. Such a whiner :spank: but then still gotta try to speak to him with TLC :rotflmao: Meals for today & tomorrow will be softer food

I cried after each time orthodontist tightened...those were the days. After leaving the clinic, I could feel the pull of the braces...could only eat porridge for lunch and dinner. But times have changed, so I think it wouldn't be such a painful experience now. :xedfingers:

Not that I know of...but my son is going to get it done at NUH...sort of a 'tie-up' with his plastic surgeon at KK.

Braces…yah, dentist say DS can start braces after PSLE. Hiaz, so tired of endless chase to get this and that done. See what’s my mood after DS2’s exams.

Sch dentist do not provide braces, need orthodontist to do it. Sch dentist at most just give recommendation letters. No subsidization too.
