2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

those CO letters I have seen never state any min tscore needed
I am quoting those bc in most other schools - generally the IP ones, such requirements are not stated. Instead, they only require a score of 200 if they have given a DSA confirmed offer.verykiasu2010:
I think the tscore required by the DSA offer for sports and arts as mentioned above are mild. In the first place if the child is really that weak, is it wise for the child to be in the midst of all the rest who are around 250 and above ?
The schools i mentioned above that set min score of 220-225-230 are popular non-IP schools like SJI, CHS. I think those who got in under non-sports/arts domains have this min score set, which is no different from the scores set for affiliated boys. -

But they usu say must be eligible for express stream, right?
those CO letters I have seen never state any min tscore needed -
phankao:
ya lah, so the eligibility for express stream is 200, chicken feed

that means those given minimum tscore to meet for sports and arts dsa kids ..... :stupid: -

That's a good sharing. Thanks.I think the tscore required by the DSA offer for sports and arts as mentioned above are mild. In the first place if the child is really that weak, is it wise for the child to be in the midst of all the rest who are around 250 and above ?
may be some are around 23x, 24x, but way below it will means the child will really be at the bottom of the cohort while spending lots of time away doing his/her sports or arts cca will really demoralise the kids in the academic performance. Even back in the primary school, the kids are streamed into different classes.
DSA via sports and arts are good only for those who can buck up in their studies after the sports and arts are done. Else it will be a long struggle. Met someone who got DSAed via sports, tscore was 23x, was lamenting it was hard to catch up in studies because the pace of studies caters to those (majority of the cohort) above 26x. That school does not set any min tscore for the DSA successful candidates -
My child’s application for DSA via sports in other school was not successful and she planned to have it as her first choice for S1 posting (never give up attitude) despite the fact, she can choose her affiliated secondary school.
I would like to hear your take and will it be a wise choice? Thanks! -

There are schools who take 188 though. Yes, those with min score for DSA above 200 - like 230 - sad, lor. -

What's the COP for her to get back into her affiliated secondary school?
What's the COP for the school she wants to get into (the one that she got declined at DSA)?
And what is her likely PSLE score you think she might get?
We'll be better able to advise you if we have the above information. -

With regards to your qns and here're what I have gathered and thought of:-
1. 188
2. 246 range based on 2009
3. about 235 range
Thanks and Cheers! -

Thanks and Cheers!
I think your choice of school for your DD for the S1 posting should be based on her PSLE results. By then, the PSLE results are out and you should know if she has reached the standard required. If her preferred school is same or lower or even slightly higher (<3-5 marks above her T-score), then you should put that as 1st choice.
Meantime, sit tight and give her the support and encouragement she needs to do well for PSLE. Good Luck! -

Thanks and Cheers!
Hi Ongmum,
Scenario 1: If your dd's PSLE score is higher than the COP of her preferred school, put that as first choice during the S1 posting exercise.
Scenario 2: If her PSLE score is lower than the COP of her desired school, take a look at the historical non-affiliated COP of her affiliated school. If your dd's PSLE results are clearly higher than the non-affiliated COP of her school, go ahead and put the desired school as her first choice, and her affiliated school as 2nd choice. This way, even if she doesn't get into her first choice school, she'll still be able to get back into her affiliated school.
Scenario 3: If your dd's PSLE score is lower than the COP of her desired school and is also not much higher or lower than the non-affiliated COP of her affiliated school, then it's probably best to just play safe and put her affiliated school as her first choice.
All the best to your dd.
