My child’s application for DSA via sports in other school was not successful and she planned to have it as her first choice for S1 posting (never give up attitude) despite the fact, she can choose her affiliated secondary school.

I would like to hear your take and will it be a wise choice? Thanks!

Could you share more information? Such as:

What's the COP for her to get back into her affiliated secondary school?
What's the COP for the school she wants to get into (the one that she got declined at DSA)?
And what is her likely PSLE score you think she might get?

We'll be better able to advise you if we have the above information.

      Thanks for your response, jtoh.
With regards to your qns and here're what I have gathered and thought of:-

      1. 188
      2. 246 range based on 2009
      3. about 235 range

      Thanks and Cheers!
I think your choice of school for your DD for the S1 posting should be based on her PSLE results. By then, the PSLE results are out and you should know if she has reached the standard required. If her preferred school is same or lower or even slightly higher (<3-5 marks above her T-score), then you should put that as 1st choice.

Meantime, sit tight and give her the support and encouragement she needs to do well for PSLE. Good Luck!

        Thanks and Cheers!
Hi Ongmum,

Scenario 1: If your dd's PSLE score is higher than the COP of her preferred school, put that as first choice during the S1 posting exercise.

Scenario 2: If her PSLE score is lower than the COP of her desired school, take a look at the historical non-affiliated COP of her affiliated school. If your dd's PSLE results are clearly higher than the non-affiliated COP of her school, go ahead and put the desired school as her first choice, and her affiliated school as 2nd choice. This way, even if she doesn't get into her first choice school, she'll still be able to get back into her affiliated school.

Scenario 3: If your dd's PSLE score is lower than the COP of her desired school and is also not much higher or lower than the non-affiliated COP of her affiliated school, then it's probably best to just play safe and put her affiliated school as her first choice.

All the best to your dd.

Thank you for your take and advice, jtoh & Pen88n. Appreciate your well wishes for my child. πŸ˜„ I hope she does her very best for her final lap.

I would like to ask further on scenario 2 - what if she does not get into the desired school as her first choice in view her marks is higher than its COP, I think I read somewhere that COP for affiliated school will no longer stand at 188 if it is put as second choice. She will need to compete with a bigger pool of applicants and no longer having the \"priority\" rights. That's my main concern.

          Thanks and Cheers!

            Hi Ongmum,

Yes, that is correct. She only enjoys her affiliated COP of 188 if she puts her affiliated secondary school as 1st choice. That is why I wrote to check the historical non-affiliated COP of her affiliated secondary school. Because this is the COP she will need to get back into her affiliated secondary school if she puts it as second choice.

So for eg. if the COP of her desired secondary school is 246 and your dd scores 244, while the non-affiliated COP of her affiliated secondary school is about 234, your dd can try putting her desired school as 1st choice and her affiliated secondary school as 2nd choice. Because she should be able to make it back into her 2nd choice if she fails to get into her 1st choice school. Of course we are assuming that her affiliated secondary won't suddenly make a ten point improvement in her COP.

If you think that's too much of a risk, then the other option is to put her affiliated secondary school as 1st choice and appeal to the desired school for a transfer after posting results are out. This is a very tedious process though.

But they usu say must be eligible for express stream, right?

ya lah, so the eligibility for express stream is 200, chicken feed

that means those given minimum tscore to meet for sports and arts dsa kids ..... :stupid:

Actually express stream is 188! But most of the IP schools will only take 200.

There are schools who take 188 though. Yes, those with min score for DSA above 200 - like 230 - sad, lor.
actually some schools counsel those 188 to join normal acad

                    one question:

if a pupil get a CO from school A via DSA, after PSLE result is released, he want to appeal for school B. He need to withdraw from school A first and then submit appeal form to school B. But if appeal failed, can he back to school A? πŸ˜„

                      friend :

you have rejected it after accepted it

now you want to come back ??

as they said ..... someone should never return to its vomit ....

the right thing to do is : get the in-principle acceptance of school B first, before you burn the bridges

understand that lots of parents do it this way

only thing : teaching the kids the kids the WRONG value that we do not honour our commitment....promises can be broken...... moral values....nothing legalistic about it

as someone also pointed out, especially for top schools, they also offer to those who did not secure DSA offer - a second chance if they are above the COP and yet accepted the DSA offer from other schools

if the pupil is required to report to school A on 23 Dec, but the appeal result is out (appeal is successful) on 29 Dec by school B, then how to do? πŸ™‚
