          Hi All

My son is currently with MS for P1 Eng and dont think I’ll be continuing nxt yr. Reason is because I dont like their teaching method. Seems like teacher has been feeding them with answers all these while…Many times when my son came back with a perfect score for the CA/SA papers, I questioned him and he said teacher helped the whole class… When is the time child learns to pick up frm mistakes?
Been there for nearly a year and I think MS focus more on Compo and text type writing. Homework will always be rewriting of essays means copy frm word to word back on a fresh paper…What is the purpose? DS answered "Oh for us to be familiarize with the techniques"…Familiarization took the whole year?? They’ve got to be kidding me!
Another issue would be, there wont be any make up lesson for the absent child. They will be given the prev work back to do. My child took effort catching up wht he missed but when he handed up the following week, the only word found on tht hmwrk was ‘Seen’ and no marking. I doubt teacher even took time to check his work.
They are taught new words all tht but I believe if reading is a hobby, child will be able to pick up bombastic words frm good books and learn the usage too! And if Compo writing is their forte, just by asking a child to keep rewriting the whole essay, any parent will also be able to do. Just let child copy frm any text out of the newspaper, no need to send to them!
Seriously,I would like to see more frm MS not just tht! MS is for children who are not hungry to find knowledge, they are being fed which makes them lazy to even find out more.
Some parents may feel otherwise…but for me 1 year is enough to move on to another place…My son is bored too:(

Just wondering whether centers managed by head office are better run? With better teachers?

Most centers are franchises, only a few are managed by head office eg. Serangoon, Clementi…

I think the bishan one should be better as it is their main office.

Most of the parents’s negative feedback here about MS is very true. Their teaching quality is way below my expectation for the above-average tuition fees. I wonder how the teachers monitor their students’ learning progress if they absent from the classes so often. I stopped sending my son for his maths and english classes at Yew Tee branch last month, after a year with them. Basically, they just don’t care. I doubt they will improve as they don’t even bother why we quit…

My opinion is that tuition centres run by full time ex-teachers are better than francised ones. This is because the former will give their 100% since they own the centres, while tutors hired by francised centres might just give their 50%. Besides, francised centres usually experience a high turn-over rate for tutors as compared to those run by the tutors themselves.
