MummyThreeStreams:
Hi MummyThreeStreams,My eldesis will be P3 next year. Can't self study! So far P2 work has been easy, but as we progress to P3 and P4, I think if we don't keep up with the MOE syllabus, it will be too much to catch up on. And I still have two younger ones to worry abou!
Your daughter sounds so disciplined to work on her own and do her one hour of work. My son complains after 15mins! Also he has his local school work to do, so by the time we get down to Mummy's work, he's itching to go outside and play.
For maths, the Singapore syllabus should be fine for your son. As long as he can keep up with the test papers, nothing to worry. As for Science, my son has no problem with the concepts but the answering technique is something he has to work on. So, you might want to spend more time with him on it if he's rejoining the Sg system in P4. Another area to look out for is composition. During exams, the students are allowed only 50 mins to 1 hour on composition. So, it is important to train your son to write within the time limit. My son has a steep learning curve on this when we came back. Actually, he still hasn't mastered that yet.
How's the violin lessons going on? It's me lah... -

Yes, even though my kids are in lower primary, the pressure on me, (though not as much as yours) was also something I couldn't shake off.
It's great to be more relaxed for Pr school, but a little worrying when they get older. It's hard to get the best of both worlds, I suppose. We are returning to Singapore next year with kids in Sec 2 and going-to-Pre-U. They've had it relatively easy so far even though I have been making them do some Singapore schoolwork, but they know (because I keep telling them!) that they will have to buckle down and work harder once we are back home. We feel that they need to learn to take the pressure. Also, we want them to adapt to Singapore living before they become adult and independent. To drag this thread back on topic, all this trying to keep up with Singapore schoolwork plus planning for our return has been one of the major reasons that I am a SAHM even though my kids are so old. I would have loved to take on more freelance work, but living overseas with all it's additional admin takes its toll.
But look on the brighter side, both your girls have achieved so much with your constant presence. It's a big achievement for you too. :grphug: -

Heehee, while you are at it, let me just introduce myself formally.
Biodata :
I have been a SAHM for the last 10 years with 2 kids aged 7 and 9. We have spent almost 2/3 of the last 9 years overseas.
For me, SAHM means \"stay at home mom\" as well as \"stay at home maid\".
Just returned to Singapore to join the much debated Singapore system.
It's heartwarming to know SAHMs are gaining more acceptance and recognition now. 9 years ago, people would stare at me in rude shock when they knew my status. -
I know who you are already.
I was at first at a loss as your nick came in black like a noobie however your post counts tell a different story. I presume it must be a trade off huh? For a new nick? Because you addressed me directly, i assumed from your writing style that we have conversed before. Very happy you're back, so perhaps we can chat more abt your overseas-sahm stint. Looking forward to reading more of you. Is your boi still playing the same instrument? Aniwaes, i honestly find that with a mom like you, overseas or here in good ol' SG... your kiddies are in great hands. :celebrate: -

How are your kids doing?
Lots of SAHMs where I am, but like I mentioned in a previous post, they all seem to have everything under control and I am not! :faint:
