All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
-
i have started my 2 kids on piano but my younger son dropped out after just 6 months (he didnt want to practice & we didnt want to force him).
my elder has been “clinging-on” for over a year.
he does practice on his own but he likes to remember the notes and not read the notes… this is really annoying. any method to change this habit ?
theory wise, he is ok (can recognise the notes).
btw, he is still in the beginners class (one to one) at Cristofori.
he is using keyboard which we bought from Toys R Us. we thought to buy piano only when he is going for exams. -

That sounds exactly like my son. Solution? Dunno. Still working on it after 5 years.... he does practice on his own but he likes to remember the notes and not read the notes... this is really annoying. any method to change this habit ?

That's why i start with note reading and rhythm counting on the very first lesson. JMC courses start with listening first as the students are used to it hence refuse to read notes later even when they are taught to do so in the later stage of the course. However, it is too late by then

Alamak... u mean my 5 years investment all went down the drain?! :? -
Lol JMC is more on music appreciation. Not for formal lessons. The best is to start with formal lessons and strengthens foundation. Most parents will think - i don't want my child to go for exam, just want them to learn for leisure and enjoy themselves. So they go for music appreciations or opt for cheaper options like cheaper teachers, cheaper courses or group lessons as they are cheaper. By the time the child is more interested, parents will want them to do it seriously and want them to go for exams. However, their foundation are not strong enough and they do not learn the correct way right from start. So the child might have to start all over again. Which will waste time and money. So i always say, foundation is the most important no matter what you are learning. As you might not know where you will be heading in the future

Hi dendex
Any comments on Cristofori since your kids is there ?
thanks -
Hi pianojazzy
Can playing piano help to improve the attention span of a child? One of my twin boys (turning 4yrs old in Oct) has really short attention span. He walks around in class and only participates when he is interested.
Brought him to a doc and she confirms that he is ok.
He is interested in music and movement.
Thanks -
Yup it does. In fact most of my young students have short attention span. It varies between them. Normally it does helps.
Cos for the first few lessons, practical takes a shorter time and more time will be spend on activities. Every next lesson, more n more time will be focused on practical thus it helps.

pianojazzy, would you be available to coach my sons? I would like to find out more about your programmes. I will message you my contact details.
Thanks. -
