All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
-
Hi hi…
Any parent has sent your 2yr old kids to music/piano classes? Does your kids really pick up skill from attending those course and does it really helps for their piano higher level course? If yes, any recommended school. Thank you!
Cheers! -

I've always thought most music schools conduct piano lessons only for children of at least 4 years old - even so, at least 1 parent is expected to sit in to make sure the child follows up at home. Children under that age are mostly taught music appreciation classes, but apparently they can do more than that according to http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/music-lessons-your-two-year-old.Hi hi..

Yeah, dont think a 2 year old can even finger the keys properly. But I recently attended a piano concert, where my girl's piano teacher showcase all her students. And my my...some of the students and very young. (4/5?), and can play like an angel.Hi hi..

Probably starting young has it merits. -
For very young children, do go for any music appreciation class. Do not start one to one unles your child can understand, read and write alphabets and numbers.
it is good to start from young even if your child has short attention span. As it help them to focus, improve maths and behaviour etc.
Too many advantages to list them all. Have fun with music!

So far just went for 2 lessons so too early to tell. basically the objective is to get them to appreciate tones high, low, loud, soft, slow fast, etc familiarise them with the keyboard and the musical notes using flash cards. e.g. they flash the notes while singing a song. They also have games to help strengthen the fingers so the they will have the necc finger strength to use the keyboard. I think my boy enjoy the classes and while I know how to play myself, I won't have thought of introducing those concepts to him since they seems so obvious to me. -
Piano seems to be the “standard” instrument for kids…anyone thot of getting the child to learn something more exotic…like er hu or something
-
Ha ha I tot of letting my boy learn somehing easily portable like flute of something, never mind western kind of eastern kind. But its up to him lah. One step at a time.

There are a whole bunch of skools targetting to teach kids instruments from a 3 years old. Sempi school of music which I am sending my boy to is one of those. There is another at Forum that have suzuki violin cal Mac Music School. Crestar also teach Suzuki from 3 onwards. There's one call Madeville that sounds like super serious in music training.

I think important thing the teacher. Best is get referrals from good teachers that knows how to teach young kids. I heard of reputable places but teachers are super strict and not encouraging. -

Absolutely agree. There is a very reputable school here but how many children completed grade 8 at a very young age and never touch the piano again. I always have students and parents complaining about their ex sch or teachers. So really have to be careful with the sch one choose. To the parents, the most is a waste of time n money. But to the child, it might affect them for the rest of their lives.
