Hi,
Does anyone here know if it makes a difference whether a GEP student attend a secondary school with school based gifted programme or not? Would appreciate some advice. Thanks. -

As you know, MOE GE Branch advises that all primary GEP students go to secondary schools with SBGE programmes. I believe the difference is that these schools would cater to those with higher abilities and the curriculum and pedagogy would be better suited to their learning. My personal opinion - my dd and I attended the Open House of an IP school which did not offer an SBGE programme. My dd and her classmates commented that a couple of the projects the school would be doing the kids already covered in P5 GEP. So the standard isn't quite there I gather.Hi,

Sim Ann is my batch GEP. We are the second batch. But there is another batch who entered GEP in Sec1. The oldest GEP student should be 40 this year if they entered in Sec 1.
Sim Ann was the top GEP girl I think. Dunno how she compared to the top GEP guy. -

Thanks. Do you know if the MOE GE branch continues to monitor the performance of GEP students in Secondary school? Do you think my son will be dropped from MOE's radar screen if he does not join a Sec school with a Ge programme?
We are in a dilemma now. DS2 applied for DSA at HCI and NJC. He liked the programme offered by NJC after attending their talk. He did not get a CO from HCI, but got one from NJC. If we accept the NJC CO, then i suppose it is end of GE for him. If we don't, we take a risk that if he can't get into another IP school with GE programme after PSLE results, he will have to go to a 4 yr programme even if it is a school with GE programme. I personally know of a case of a GEP student who did not do well enough to get admitted to any IP school, GE programme or not.
DS1 (not in GEP) is in a Sec school offering 4 yr GE programme. I know that in DS1's year, only 1 GEP student is in that school because he did not do well enough to go to an IP school. His class are all main streams, and I'm not sure how different the lessons are from the rest of the school.
So come Oct 24, we really have to think hard. I wish I had discovered KSP earlier and sought advise before the DSA applications.....

The question is set by MOE. Non exam but still graded if i'm not wrong. Initially i ask the school Math teacher to help. At first she said ok, then she said she was too busy. Maybe she doesnt know how to solve after reading the question :evil:
But dont worry lah. I think the other 3 or 4 topics are fine. Just this one \"suay\". -

It is P6. Something to do with some barcode thingy. If you guys really interested, i can share the actual assignment. I keep it for momento - a P6 assignment to be solved by a PHD holder. Xiao!! Dont worry. I believe they have different questions every year. Just spoke with my dd. This is \"AA = Alternative Assessment\", only P6 has it. It is graded, question set by MOE. After doing it, they need to submit to MOE.
PM me your email address and i can send to you for reference. Dont know how to attach document here leh. (I'm quite a comp idiot - lucky my dds do not have my genes)

I read that some kind of research was done. Playing music or art actually develops the right brain. When i was living in Australia, both my dds have instruments included in their curriculum. Interestingly, they learnt one different instrument every term. Perhaps that is why the Aussies are generally more creative.Actually, i noticed tat my dd's ge friends quite a high percentage of them do learn to play musical instruments,
So may playing instrument also helps in brain development.
Art is another subject apparently develop brains.
Not sure about the other GE kids (asking out of curiosity) - do your ds / dd play musically instrument or good at art?
Both my dds are doing 2 instruments, they use to paint but last few years too busy with their schedule -

I tot so too. She can study ahead of others, she has more 'practice papers to try. On top of tat, i heard she has two maths tutos.

Just wondering, with so many tuition/enrichment, will the kids feel bored in class? Will they concentrate since there is always a fallback - tuition?

I heard there are though not many. Initially i was hesitating if i should let my dd go for GE. I was afraid she cant cope with the extended work. My dd quite lazy. I dont want to stress her out. But the school teacher told me to give it a try as if she cant, she can always transfer to the mainstream. She said there were such cases.
I hv not heard of any dropout. I think moe will also not let u drop ge they will counsel u first. The dir from moe mentioned an example that the mum wanted her child to drop out of ge cos she can't handle ge and thinks that her kid cannot hande ge.
