Hi! Checking in with those parents whose kids have gone thru p6… does anyone know, for DSA, what’s the maximum AL overall for p5/6 GEP to be considered for DSA (academic) for top schools?
Also, in general, how do gep kids do for psle? -

Hmm… You can write in to those schools to ask them.
I have no children applied for DSA, but from what I gathered after watching YouTube video on NYGH answering questions on DSA into that school, GEP or not has no bearing on DSA acceptance. there are many factors they consider and it can differ for each year as each batch’s applicants profiles can be different- a particular year they can see many high achievers and the standard will be raised for that year. They did mentioned GEP will not have priority over non GEP. They will look at performance during selection test/interview, look at passion- these are some of the selection criteria. They did mentioned whether the students can cope with the demand of the school curriculum is one of the thing they assess too. That is where P5/6 performance Is considered and they mentioned they are knowledgeable in different curriculums (different schools’ + GEP i suppose) and know how to adjust for them to assess students from different curriculums on the same fair level.
It should be the same practice for all top schools. -

@olivia_tan Thank you for your kind offer. My child got selected into the program and school posting results will be out next week. In the meantime, we are now having second thoughts on whether to actually go for the program or not, hence seeking advice from existing or veteran GEP parents.
Our primary concerns are workload, peer pressure and potential bullying in an all-boys environment, be it amongst the GEP or mainstream cohort. Especially because he doesn’t seem particularly strong in any area, and nowhere near the ranks of mainstream over-achievers, let alone GEP over-achievers. Till now, we aren’t exactly sure how he got in to be honest.
May I ask -
-
Workload - Has the workload increased or decreased over the last few years? We hear rumours of GEP kids staying up till 11pm or even past midnight just to keep up with workload - is this true?
-
Are there tests every term, starting from the get-go in Primary 4 Term 1?
-
How often do the GEP kids stay back in school for compulsory after-school activities (not excluding CCA)?
-
Child doesn’t particularly like reading and we hear most GEP kids are avid readers. Seeing some of the posts here, it seems there is a long recommended reading list for GEP kids. Do the teachers expect all kids to finish the entire reading list?
Thank you in advance to parents for your wisdom and kind sharing.
