JC or Poly?

That will be around 30% same as poly like leeyl says. If get into poly can only keep reminding dd to have more self discipline. We went back to the poly today thought of getting more info on another school..it was so quiet, all closed. Cleaner says Sat & Sun all closed.
Much less than 80% for the lowest few JCs. I believe that the rate of getting into local university is roughly 3 in 10 for the lowest few JCs, MI and polys. -
Check with your daughter, which is her preferred choice, Poly or JC?
I asked DD1 and she picked CJC. She wanted something like a continuation of sec sch. She is not ready going to a “mini university” (referring to poly) yet.
Plus at 16yo, she had no idea what she wanted to do. Psychology, nursing, Biz Admin etc. all sound interesting to her.
If the kid chooses to go CJC, then our role is to support them, make sure they do well to be within the top 40% of CJC cohort. Then it is quite safe for her to get a place in the local Uni !!!
PS: There is a revamp of A levels grading system from RP90 to RP70. Hope this helps in reducing the stress of A level students. :rahrah: -
Was at JC open house. From this batch onwards, UAS is over 70rp, not 90rp. Also Pw is pass or fail only.
If kid alr has passion in a specific field, can choose poly.
But don’t choose poly thinking poly need less effort. Don’t choose poly if kid is not sure which field is more suitable. Poly need consistent good results. Gpa is accumulative, so no walk in the park too. -

It is not that there is no exam totally. Still have written exams, just that weightage is lower becos the projects weightage is higher (compared to JC PW, EOY…) Also, i think final year of poly requires a compulsory Final Year (research) Project? That is quite a tough one to do well.

No exam means all depends on project and most are group projects. Finding common available time is alr an challenge or to say the type of members in the group.
Poly is easier if goal is to get diploma and then go out to work. No need worry abt grades, so if grp proj gets lousy grade, also doesn’t matter.
How to know poly is the right choice? The kid is alr doing own research on the subject or field, even better alr doing work on his own.
Met a NP student at last yr open house. He is taking banking and finance course. His parents are in the field and he was alr doing trading since sec sch. He even showed me his account on his phone. This type, he alr know what he wants to do, very safe to go poly. He shared he is aiming good grades to get into uni, what grades and how to achieve etc. -

But, you should warn her that poly is continual assessment - which means that she cannot allow anything to slip. Every assignment, project, class participation etc. counts. It can be even more pressurising that studying for exams. Some students actually prefer to study for exams a couple of times a year than have to be on their toes continually. It takes better time management, and often more maturity, to handle continual work and projects. -
According to kid went NP biz talk, no exams was mentioned. Could be for 1st yr or 1st two year. Cannot imagine whole 3 years have no exam.

Do u mean ELL (English Language and Linguistics)?
Cjc is one of the three JCs offering ELEP; The other two are RI and ACJC.
It seems like their GP dept is also strong.
If any KSP knows anyone who has taken ELL as H2 subject, please let me know; I’d like to find out more! -
I remember the guy at booth also mentioned minimal exams for the poly course.
