How do you qualify under 2A2 for SJI Junior? Must you be an ex-student of the school or does old boys of SJI count?I can't decide.
which one:
Maris Stella or SJIJ?
Maris Stella is nearer to the house we are thinking to buy, qualified for 2B,SJIJ farther, but not very far, qualified for 2A2. -

You sound like someone I (& hubby) met. Were you & hubby at MSH around 11am on the 2nd day of Phrase 2B registration? Did you eventually pull out of SJIJ & got into MSH? Hope we can meet again on Orientation day.I can't decide.

Hi
Can anybody share what is the difference between catholic school and normal school? does catholic school have additional subjects for religious study? besides practising morning prayers, are there more benefits?
I’m thinking of sending my girl to Holy Innocents in Hougang, however it’s slightly far from where I stay now. That’s why i’m considering if it’s worthwhile to send her there… -
If you are a non-catholic then it won’t make much difference to your daughter. When its time for bible studies, she will do another subject; from memory I think it’s moral education or something like that.
She is not requried to pray or do anything outside of her own reglioious beliefs.
However catholic schools from my experience focus on personal growth as well as academics and physical abilities.
An all girls school is also a great environment to develop independence & leadership skills in girls
My family & extended family of girls all went to a catholic girls school for over 3 generations so this form of education and school is valued highly by our families.
Hope this helps. -

could you kindly elaborate on this point? :? -
Hi Catherine,
thank you for your advice.
My daugther is a Catholic, so I believe she would benefit for the bible study at school. Is this only once a week? The church that we go to also has weekly catecism class, I wonder if they are the same.
Do you think that all girls Catholic school is good for her personal development? I came from a mixed school background, and I always thought that having both girls and boys at school is better as it will teach them how to interact with different sexes.
Do you feel differently?
thanks -
I can only tell you from my own experience. I had a great time at school, primary & secondary and I’m not the best student but as an adult now I’m doing pretty good. What I remembered most was the teachers knew me personally and took an interest in me & they always had time for me so that mattered a lot; I was not just a student. Both my principles (primary & secondary) were great women who everyone could see really care for the students and we all felt part of a family. We were also close to some of the teachers and even the strict ones meant well.
Being in an all girls school also allows girls to be girls without worrying about what the boys would think or being shy, so you can just be yourself and excel. As a child I obviously I didn’t notice any difference but as a parent now I see the boys in my daughters kindergarten and when they are running around and playing rough (which is normal for boys) it scares the quiet girls a little and they avoid these boys.
As they get older you get the relationship issues & crushes to worry about and getting them to focus on studies will be a problem I assume. No experience here only assumption.
I got to be myself and that’s where I got my confidence and independence, and I learnt right from wrong, standing up for your beliefs, being a strong woman. All my friends have become strong women in their own right so I would have to say that it is the whole experience of being in a convent school that lays the foundation for what you become later on in life.
You don’t have to worry about interaction with different sexes, it will happen. lol… Seriously, your dd is not living in a shell, and interaction at the kid’s level is the same, some are extroverts & some are not, but they always find ways to play together. My friends & I did our 10 years in a convent schools and came out pretty ok and dealt with boys the way everyone would. Its called women’s instinct.
Dont’ worry about it, we had inter-school games, etc. but at that time it didn’t matter to me.
I can’t remember if it is every week. I did catechism at church and there is a difference. In bible studies at school, its more structured and I had to memorise every parable and understand the meaning of it. We were tested on in so to this day I know my bible pretty well.
