Agree !!
I also confused. I oso scared of the cows here but I do so love my chargrilled beef.
In any case, GEP or mainstream, privileged or disadvantaged, if not given the proper guidance by parents and teachers, may go off rail. So I still don't see how not being discovered as GEP makes a diff in this case.
But at least you like chargrilled beef.. I don't like beef at all!

Regarding disadvantaged kids, I've discussed in other threads some time ago, so don't wish to repeat here, also this thread is for GEP. Since MOE has already promised to make improvements to our education system, like raising the quality of teachers, mainstreamers will benefit. For all you know, you have small class-size in GEP, good teaching materials in GEP and teacher can have close-coaching in GEP, Aren't these the helps that the GEPpers received. :? Even without any parental helps, GEP teachers and GEP branch will provide help to those GEPpers all the time. All these helps/benefits that GEPpers are getting will definitely help them to perform. In fact, these will help the mainstreamers to perform as well provided all these helps/benefits are equally provided to mainstreamers.
I do not think GEPpers are coached so much more.. if you go through the GEP thread carefully, it's alot on indep learning/ parental help.

You mean the teacher marks the composition and provides a detailed comments and suggestion to improve and also have draft 1, 2, 3 type of marking are not considered \" close-coaching\" in GEP . In mainstream, the teacher just provides the mark with 'nothing' literally.
Nebbermind:
I'm not aware any 'close coaching' in GEP.

Was there 2 or 3 close passages in the English paper. DD first told me that there was 2 close in first part of the paper and no close passages in the second part of the paper. But now she is telling me that there was 1 close in first part of the paper and 1 in the second part of the paper. Her friends are saying that there was 2 close passages in part 1 and 1 close passage in part2. so I am a bit confused. thanks

If you mean to say mainstream in all schools including P3, i have to voice my disagreement. Teacher in my ds school does more than just providing a mark. You mean the teacher marked the composition and provide a detailed comments and suggestion to improve and also marking draft 1, 2, 3 type of marking are not considered \" close-coaching\" in GEP . In mainstream, the teacher just provides the mark with 'nothing' literally.

Of course, some helps are still better than no helps at all in Maisntreams. Whether GEP program is good route or not, that is another discussion altogether and I have my own reservation.

Don't get angry over something I wish to clarify hor.Melodies:

I tot you posted just a couple of pages before that you don't buy the idea that GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place [see red below]. That got me - and apparently some other forummers - all confused as you seem to be saying diff things above. :scratchhead:Melodies:
BTW, I do not even buy in the idea of GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place. I have seen some 'products' of the GEP before and I know what to expect from them.

Prior to 1983, there was no GEP programme. So there were always brilliant kids out there who were never 'discovered' and 'sayanged' with small class sizes and appropriate material. So what?? Cream floats to the top--usually-- with or without special programmes to cater to their intellectual capacities. Like someone here observed, they won't be lost to society.
My DH was one of the handful of pioneers who rejected the offer to enter the programme. Today... decent job... no tattoo. Once in a while, we debate if he would be more successful now if he had gone through four years of GEP education. He still thinks it was the right choice, though he has not quite floated to the top.

Oops! ur ds's GEP school don't have!
