All Schools are GOOD Schools

LIke in politics, the louder voices in the internet who oppose is not indicative of the real majority who find there's nothing wrong with it. Besides, majority who express their opposing view in forums would tend more to drown out those who decide not have their thumbs sticking up. .....I mean - like you could just count the ones who would agree that holding a by-election is wasting tax payers' money, right?
In this Kiasu forum, we seem to be hearing a lot of voices from the not-so-kiasu parents i.e. those who think that it is torturous and crazy to have multiple tuitions etc etc…what about those real kiasu parents whom we read about in these newspaper reports? Dun dare to voice out to defend themselves maybe? So in a way, they also think it is wrong/crazy?It takes a different kind of temperament to stand up to the voices of majority, and yet, to be able to withstand the blows, again, and again...they won't cry \"stop\" or \"ok, I've had enough\" they just duck and lay low, then reappear when there's a chance for a come back, to give some unguarded ones the blow, or perhaps attempt a Bruce Lee kick with smear - I mean sneer, only to be perceived as a Steven Chow, you either love him or you hate him - not both. Ooops, sorry! Got carried away..
sean wife:
You've used the right word - 'believe' - cos you'll never know the truthI also feel that such reports will simply increase the awareness of more people to such practices/services, and thus making more parents jumping on the same bandwagon (especially if desperate enough). Such is the influence of media and I do not believe that MOE or the government is not aware or have not considered the repercussion of this indirect ‘ advertising’ of such practices. So maybe they are trying to encourage rather than to discourage the trend of seeking more external help earlier?
Like I've said before, if it benefits the economy, why put a stop to it? Tuition is a booming industry. We see a trend of more teachers quitting to become tutors. Maybe they will make it boom to a point and then start TAXING THE TUTORS. -

This tuition fever is not only happening in SG. My expat friends in KL who put their kids in IS and PS also send their kids to tuition in weekends. They said the local ppl are doing that too. Friends in HK also said the same. CNA documentary also showed Japan and Taiwan having the tuition fever too.
more likely.. they're forced to do it..?sean wife:

If given a choice (schools not operating at accelerate pace due to many student attending enrichment classes), maybe they wouldn't want to have tuition too.. in a way, they are \"kiasu\".. scared to lose.. or scared being disadvantaged for not having attend enrichment classes.. when every one else is doing it..
so the root of all evil is some super kiasu parent starting the trend and also the existence of the tuition centers..
Remove the tuition centers and many problems would be gone.. and talents return to schools and teachers teach properly.. -
What about private schools that offer ‘O’ and ‘A’ level courses? Especially those that are not so well-known. I hear that Insworld Institute has been around for about 10 years and some of their students go to Ivy league universities. Any insights?

Perhaps, it will take an expert in the relevant field to express that such acts will cause more harm than good to our children that people would seriously consider otherwise.

\"From the experience of all ages and nations, I believe, that the work done by free men comes cheaper in the end than the work performed by slaves. Whatever work he does, beyond what is sufficient to purchase his own maintenance, can be squeezed out of him by violence only, and not by any interest of his own. \"
- Adam Smith, on slavery.
Replace the bold words with our context and you get this:
\"From the experience of all ages and nations, I believe, that the work done by free children comes cheaper in the end than the work performed by children who takes excessive tuition. Whatever work he does, beyond what is sufficient to truly benefit from his education, can be squeezed out of him by excessive tuition only, and not by any interest of his own. \"

English Teacher's errors in spelling.
to be honest i don't think the words 'trooping' and 'seating' are in their right usage here..
isn't 'trooping' used more for a group of (or at least a few) people? so strictly speaking one can't say \"I trooped out of the kitchen\" since there is only one person involved.
it's harder to explain for 'seating', but frankly i've never come across the expression \"seating myself\". (\"I was seated..\", yes.)
Why not just say \" I clambered upon it and sat down beside my good friend Jack.\" ?
jmho.. -
Intermezzo:
Seat oneself

Seat myself
All are correct.

Thanks for noticing the wrong use of trooping that Teacher DID NOT correct. There were many others she did not correct. However, what is more salient is the mistakes she made when she corrected. You're really sharp to notice what she DID NOT correct.
