Perverts

smurf:
It is in a very public place, and he held your son's hand for a very valid purpose, to perform a magic trick. I guess the purpose of holding his hand tightly, is to distract him from the \"magic trick\" that's going to happen. From what i see, there doesn't seem to be any ill intent. If the trick is to be performed on you, would u have screamed molest? Personally, if i see the trick performed on someone, and the person screams molest, i would think that person is psycho.OT a bit:
today we went to Vivo, and there is a stall called Magic something outside Cold Storage. There is a guy (of indian origin) who asked DS1 to grab a ball, and then he GRAB and HOLD TIGHTLY DS1 hand while performing magic. (The magic is: He asked DS1 to hold the ball with a hand, and then he held another ball on his own hand, and then the ball on his hand magically appeared in DS1 hand, so DS1 has 2 balls).)
while the trick made DS1 facinated, I was thinking 'how could I let other guy held his hand so tightly??'
What would you do in this case?
Btw, what's the purpose of stating the person's racial origin?
Every one of those guys who molested me, are chinese, and i'm chinese too. I do not think any particular race has more perverts than the other. -
that's why I said OT mah...not to mean the person is pervert lah...just sharing a story...maybe some mums dun like it...as in, other people holding their kids hands...
and stating racial origins is to be more detailed (maybe I shouldn't put that), not racist...:D -
smurf:
I think that's being over-protective....maybe to the point of neurotic. How would they react if their child is kissed on the hand/forehead by someone whose background kissing is a social courtesy? I do know of a husband who went beserk after his wife was kissed on the cheek by an angmo as part of greeting. That guy is really siao. It's not a real kiss lor, just making a smacking sound only.that's why I said OT mah...not to mean the person is pervert lah...just sharing a story...maybe some mums dun like it...as in, other people holding their kids hands...

Skunk, cultural respect is both ways. The ang mo also needs to understand that culturally it is not the way we greet here so he has to be sensitive too. So the way I see it, when in Rome we accept what Romans do for cultural respect. If this couple is overseas, then they should learn the culture n expect the smack but if the ang mo is in Singapore, then he deserves a smack on the head by the husband. I don’t believe we have to do everything ang mos do in our own home, that is an intrusion of my lifestyle.
Also typically if you visit a place, you are there to learn other’s culture then keeping an open mind is critical. Just my 2 cents. -
ks2me:
yes, I agree with u. However, the main point is not to be overtly sensitive, especially where there's no ill-intent. While the angmo was not being sensitive, the husband was being overtly sensitive, to the point of neuronia. Both are in the wrong, with the husband more in the wrong. The angmo was just being ignorant.Skunk, cultural respect is both ways. The ang mo also needs to understand that culturally it is not the way we greet here so he has to be sensitive too. Back to the topic, the fear of perverts should not result in neurotic/overprotective behaviour...or else who's the one suffering in the end? -
ks2me:
It just occured to me, would it have been better if i change the word \"angmo\" to \"Singaporean Eurasian\"? There seems to be a cultural baggage in SG, a sort of anti-white mindset....an aftermath from the Romanian incident ah LOLI don't believe we have to do everything ang mos do in our own home, that is an intrusion of my lifestyle.
I regularly receive smacks on the cheeks from my Singaporean Eurasian friends, they are as Singaporean as u and I. -
hmm, in this case, ks2me is right leh.
Skunk,
when you mentioned the husb went berserk…how berserk is he? he went crazy as in anyhow whack/kill people or divorce his wife? -
smurf:
went beserk as in, walked out of the party, and when wife went to chase after him, he started to shout and dunno do what lol.hmm, in this case, ks2me is right leh.

Anyway, just another absurd story to share, just to illustrate how neurotic people can be.
Once, i met an acquaintance, who introduced me to her boyfriend. She's one of those Ah Lian types, lowly educated, the heavily tattooed boyfriend also Ah Beng that type. I shook the boyfriend's hand. He said, \"你 siao ah....你以为你在演戏啊?要握手,以为你是minister ah?\" HAHAHAHA!!! I was like totally caught off guard lol
The girlfriend looked embarressed and they quickly left lol. Anyway, the first guy is also the \"very chinese type\", if u know what i mean.... -
hmm, I would think maybe to the second couple, shaking hands is culture shock to them as they dun do that to their friends??
dun think they are neurotic lah, just different ‘‘çulture’’… -
smurf:
so in relation to the scenerio where a magician touches a boy in performing a magic act, or a child is kissed by a non-relative adult as a social greeting, or given a pat on the head, or even a friendly hug, we should not be neurotic and think that everyone is a potential pervert.
dun think they are neurotic lah, just different ''çulture''...
Perverts never strike when the parents are around. Those that do, are not perverts, just retarded lol
