MPM Maths - Discussion

wah, your child finish on 1 hr for 2 materials, very very clever. If based on this type of child who is serious, fully concentrated and independent. MPM materials can be easily tackle with 45-90mins for 2 materials.
It is unhealthy practise to stay in the MPM classroom for more than 2 hrs. Examination time how? Paper cannot finish on time, that’s it. How can MPM in that centre practise not according to real life situation?
I don’t mind if my child can’t complete on time.
And I will scold my child instead for not concentrating in the class.
I saw some kids stay for 2-3 hrs just to complete the 2 materials (18 pages). Something is wrong right? That is a good practise for the kids to take own sweet time to complete. -
I noticed on the front page of DS’ work books that there are spaces to record the start and end time.
So perhaps the original intention was to record the time taken to track a child’s progress by their speed and accuracy (like Kumon does)? -

Speed training is not my concern now. I know mpm is enrichment and not tuition. I send dd1 there not for speed. If I wanted speed, I would go to CMA.wah, your child finish on 1 hr for 2 materials, very very clever. If based on this type of child who is serious, fully concentrated and independent. Test and exams in school is to test concept learned in class. But I view MPM as brain training in other aspects.
Even in the same prog, parents have different expectations. -
HI Snow1976,
I have pm you. Better not to talk about these "complaints" openly. -
It is not an issue of ‘speed’. It is about time management. Even playing computer games, still there is a time limit right? Even adults need to have ‘dateline’ to submit the assignment.
It is a priviledge for a child as young as 5 yrs old knows Time Management. It is a good headstart even before embarking primary sch education.
The wonder of this programme is that beside math concept, it teaches the student to be independent, managing time, possess competitiveness.
There is a P5 boy who can complete 2 materials plus the homework part within 90 mins. Never asks questions. He figures out his own. I think these are the kids who benefitted from the programme. -

Like I say different expectations. As long as parents know what they wish to get out of it, then it's ok.It is not an issue of 'speed'. It is about time management. Even playing computer games, still there is a time limit right? Even adults need to have 'dateline' to submit the assignment.

Which books are your son doing now?ksks3mum:
my son completed 1/2 of each book ( total 2 bks) in 1 hr, Is this reasonable?
My son takes about 1 hr too...he's at book 29 and 30.
For both books total 19 pages he completed in 1 hr time.
Yes i know is not about speed but i rather have my boy complete all pages of 2 books in mpm classroom rather then bring it home to do. My son simply wouldn't sit still at home and he cannot concentrate if at home. I must have cane standby..........
Am not sure about what book - its SG075 & SG076. He did not start from 1st book. He's K2 now. -

If me i'll ask for it.
:?SAHM_TAN:
You should have the materials with you for 2 wks. The first wk is when your child brings it home to complete the bk. The teachers will return the bks when they completed marking and you will bring it back to them during the next lesson.
So far we only get to keep the books for 1 week.
DS will bring the 2 books back, work on them, and hand them in
at the beginning of the next class....and that's it! We don't see
them coming back to us again. That's why I made sure I looked
through DS' work before the books are given back to the centre.
Perhaps each centre has different practice?
My DS is in the Bishan branch. -
