She has been teaching my child EMS for 5 years but focus a lot on CW, reading and vocabulary. If that is what you re looking for.

hi krisvan8, tsk tsk tsk copying composition work is the saddest way to learn anything
i remember having to do this in my second language lessons back at school! being an expat mom here, after school-hopping a lot, i was pretty upset that my kids would have to go through the same thing because i've come to find this learn-by-the-book method most annoying! a few years back i found them a good tutor whom i find caters to their individual needs in language skills - if you're interested you can drop me a PM... (tried PM-ing you, i identify with what you feel! but my messaging system doesn't work???) P6 is a big year... i think all parents with kids taking That Big Exam can identify!!! :xedfingers: -

Hi All,
I am a newbie here! I read thro part of the thread and seems like TAS is very well received. I would like to gather some feedback from parents who send their child to TAS. Did your child compo grades improved after going to TAS? -
Hi ning-akn,
My kids' compo grades did improve. however i find that it is important to work closely with the teachers and also to help the kids at home. And it also takes a while for the kids to show improvement, I am sharing this because I realize that from my kids math class (they are at Onsponge), some parents want immediate improvement (within a term or two) and I find it unrealistic.
But if you are willing to work with the teachers and work with your child, then you can see quite a lot of improvement (for both TAS and onsponge)..I know onsponge is not the topic here maybe a bit :offtopic: -
Hi wywy2,
Thanks for your feedback!! Yes, I understand that immediate effects are unrealistic… And I believe that creative writing needs practice to improve. May I know how old are your kids now? Maybe you can share with me what are the approaches that the teachers adopt? Copying or?? -
My kids are 9 and 7. The 9 year old is a bit faster so he is in the p4 class. From what I see, the teacher will provide a model essay for a topic and the following topics are usually connected, I think it is to help the kids to apply what they have learnt.
The teacher will teach them how to vary their sentences, how to use more descriptive language and they will ask the kids to memorise parts of the compo and after a while, I find my kids can remember and apply those phrases to other compos. Now, for my older kid, they are teaching something called characterisation. His compos have similar characters and the teacher shows how to use the character to bring out the story.
I may not be too clear but whenever I talk to the teacher, I find that she has a clear structure. No copying of compos. -
Thanks wywy2!! Glad to hear that there's not much copying!! Woah your 9 yr old is good! P3 but in P4 class!!! Does that mean that they screen the students?
I would appreciate if you can PM me paragraphs that your child wrote in TAS class. Hope it will not be too troublesome! TIA!
-
He is ok, interested to learn tt’s why his teacher suggested moving him up a level. TAS does not really screen students but they will give you feedback if they feel your child can be further stretched or if they feel your child needs more help. I know that some of the students who struggle more in the beginning are given extra help, they come earlier or they join an extra class.
Sure will pm you. I understand how it is to try to find the right centre for your kid, hope it helps but also take note that there is no 100 percent guarantee kind of centre:)
