During ptm, teacher confirmed that p4 is still honeymoon n warned that p5 is where marks will start to dip drastically. Told us to be mentally prepared that if kid not doing well now, we will be in for a rude shock next year.

Hi Mychildren and yvetan2020, I couldn't agree with you more. IT IS THE ATTITUTE!!! I just spoken to my neighbour and she told me that her son changed his attitute only at age 15!! my god! do I have to wait till then?? Really not sure what to do to correct his attitutes. I even ever consider to send him to those mindage... mindchamp... or whatever mind thinking if they could do some little \"tango\" on his attitute... that will be GREAT!!

Hi, my DH also asked me to send the kids for camps that will train them to be independent or some kind of camp that can wake them up. Not in terms of academic but to be someone with the right kind of attitude, not take things for granted and to be responsible for one's action. :nunchuk:

I'm now trying some methods at home to tune my younger DS. My younger DS do not pursue reward system so I need to talk some sense in him, in fact almost everyday. Its like chit chat section to understand the reasons why he did something and why he chose not to do. By understanding these, get to know him better and develop a win win situation whereby he is happy and I'm too. :snuggles:

I just started it so still need time to see whether it works. But as parents, we need to be firm in our decision and try always to be cool headed. :imanangel:

Ya, KS_me, I do know that boys mature much later than girls so I'm not surprised about what your neighbour had said. I do believe that but I'll still do my part to let him change for the better as early as possible. Not only for my own good, for his too! šŸ˜‰

          Hi

I think all your kids have done pretty well in the SA1. My girl was top in class last year. The past 3 years scored band 1 for all subjects. This year her result is horrible, Eng - band 3, Chinese - high band 2, Maths - high band 2 and Science - Just hit band 2 exactly. English and Science are always her best subjects and she will usually top these two subjects in her class. She is now in the top class. From 1st position, drop to 18th out of 40 students. Initially, I scolded her badly as the teachers feedback that she didn't read her questions properly, she lost all the unnecessary marks and didn't pay attention in her works and during lessons. However, when I see her overall ranking, I feel that she is not too bad as the whole level did badly and she is still the top 25% in the level. Of course, I didn't tell her so because I feel that she didn't put in effort for this year. Slack. Didn't see her revise her works esp. during exam. She is attending Maths tuition but she relies alot on her own in her works. She has two CCAs which she loves so much that she wouldn't give up. She has lots of homeworks to do as compared to other classes. I shouldn't complain too much as we are spending more time with the younger one who is playful and needs more attention from us in her studies. We told our elder girl that she is capable and can do better if she is willing to spend time revising her works. I hope she will work hard for the next two terms šŸ™‚ I think we have to divert our attention on her also.

              Hi Mummies,
May I know if it's another BIG BIG jump from P5 to P6? Thanks.

The jump from P4 to P5 is big because P5 papers follow PSLE format.
P5 is a critical year as most PSLE topics will be taught. P6, 2 terms to cover the remaining topics then 1 term for revision and it is time for the big showdown. In P6, homework and pace depends a lot on your child's school.
As told to us by previous cohort's moms, ensure your child understand the Maths and Science concepts taught in P5 as in P6, they will get questions which span across topics.

My DS har? Only thinking of playing with nerf gun. Languages are band 2, maths and science are band one. So angry with him.

Bumped into one of DD1's classmate's mummy while running on errands. She shared and highlighted a key point which to me, is a \"good reminder\" šŸ˜‰

She said,\" Achievement Bands and Grades for P3 to P5 are very generous - with Band 1 being 85-100, Band 2 70-84, Band 3 50-69 and Band 4 below 50. But once our child is in P5 next year, it is better to encourage kid to work towards the PSLE mark range and descriptor for each grade in the 4 subjects (namely EL, MT, Maths and Science).\" She then carried on to do the breakdown for me šŸ˜‚

                    A* ---- 91-100
                    A ---- 75-90
                    B ----- 60-74
                    C ------ 50-59
                    D ------- 35-49
                    E ------- 20-34
                    U ------- 0-19

For Higher Mother Tongue, the marks are as follows: Distinction (>80), Merit (65-79), Pass (50-64); Undergraded (<50).

                    I was like :nailbite: :yikes:

Btw, her boy was the top 5 in the whole cohort last year (P3) and I supposed that should be the same for this year P4 SA1 result, though that position and ranking was not shown in the report book.

                      Thanks for sharing, Champ. šŸ˜„
Based on the above, that means DD scored 2A*s (Maths & Science) and 2As for the languages. Haiz... It is just so difficult to score above 90 for languages. :slapshead:

By the way, how do we calculate the T-Score?

                        Champ,

on the contrary, I feel that psle banding is more generous than the current banding as we r contented with having As. With 75can get A already, definitely more encouraging than the current band 2 with the same grading.
