How to save electricity?

We turn totally off.Oh my goodness, my utility bill each month is $350. I have cracked my brain many times how to cut down on the bills but doesn't seem to work.
Do you guys turn off the power for TV and computer? Or just off the power at the equipment itself? I heard you need to remove the plug out from the socket to be effective. -

We charge out hp, iPad, laptops, batt pack in office

For me, another way to save electricity is to switch one the aircon about half an hour before we go to bed to cool the bedroom down. Then we switch off the Aircon and on the fan to continue circulate the cool air instead.
Use the washing machine only when it is full load. My hubby used to leave the Hp to charge overnight. But now I try to charge our Hp to full batt before we go to bed , then power off our Hp. I know many household don't have any house phone anymore but we still maintain one in case of any emergency during the night, we are still contactable. -
Oh! Fightingmom I wished I could turn off the power for my computer but it’s connected to my Hse phone. Which means my phone will be dead if I switch it off.

for me the biggest consumption is the aircon follow by fridge (i think) which is on 24hrs… we don’t watch TV on the weekdays only on weekends we watch about 2-3hrs… but yet i’m paying about $200/mth…
the only way for me to reduce my bill is to cut down on aircon but it’s easier to say than done with such hot weather especially during the night… -

Actually, SG do not need storage heaters. Instant heater will do. Most are more than capable of heating up the water from ~25°C to ~30°C. Storage heaters are more for Gas type, where it is not so practical to on/off at will when you shower.
I stay in an old flat and we have those water-tank type heaters in all 3 bathrooms. I don't like them; I prefer those instant heater types. But replacing them will cost a bomb I guess.
Electrical storage heater is a necessity for countries with winter. No heater in the market is capable of heating water from ~5°C to ~30°C \"on the fly\".. so, they need time to heat up the water slowly from sub-zero to 'comfortable\" range.. That's why nobody uses instant heaters in those countries.. -

No.

Removing the plug is no difference from switching off at the socket.
As for whether to off the socket power switch.. it's up to you. Yes, it makes a difference (compare to remote control OFF), but most likely you wouldn't feel it.
The truth is, when you off the TV using the remote, it is actually in \"standby\", and a miniscule amount of electricity is running (that is why it will respond to the remote when you \"on\" it).
Generally, appliances uses about 0.5W or less on standby.
It will cost you about 22cts/2000 ~ 0.011cts every hour, or ~8cts every month to keep it on \"standby\". Assuming current tariff is 22cts / kWh. -

No such thing lah.. are you using MIO box?
Just keep the MIO box power on can already.. computer can off. Unless yours is some very high tech network.. need computer to control the house's appliances........ -
How about washing machines and dryers? I leave the socket power switch on but the machine is off. Like that got consume energy? Seems like have hor? But the switch is very high up and deep behind the washer and dryer. I will need the ladder (to extend my height) and a stick ( to extend my hand) to off/on the power…

Haiz… They design the house for my husband (who is much taller and with longer arms) but I am the one running the operation…!

Those water-tank types are installed differently from instant-heater types. I can only control the temperature of the water by turning the water tap (it's a lever) to the left or right. There're 2 water outlets - one for cold and the other for hot water. I can't turn a knob on the heater as there's no heater per se and the water-tank is above the false ceiling.
Really - replacing water tank type heater will cost a bomb? Sorry, I am quite ill-informed but is it not just dismantle the heater and install the new one? Which part is the expensive one?
Also all the water pipes are concealed behind the toilet walls so to change to instant-heater will mean hacking the walls, re-piping and rewiring, putting back the wall and re-tiling.
I multiply the cost by 3 [I got 3 toilets with the same design] and I think it'll easily set me back by a few thousand. That's a lot of money [to me] to replace something that is not spoilt.
